Section 161 of Railway act indicates “If any person driving or leading a vehicle is negligent in crossing an unmanned level crossing, he shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year.”

Section 131 of the Motor Vehicle Act indicates that “Every driver of a motor vehicle at the approach of any unguarded railway level crossing shall cause the vehicle to stop and the driver of the vehicle shall cause the conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person in the vehicle to walk up to the level crossing and ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side and then pilot the motor vehicle across such level crossing, and where no conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person is available in the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle shall get down from the vehicle himself to ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side before the railway track is crossed”

However due to non-following of relevant rules by the road users, many accidents are occurring resulting in loss of precious life  at unmanned level crossings.

Suggest solutions for reducing accidents at unmanned level crossings.

There is heavy rush in Mumbai local trains during office hours. Youths climb on train roof & travel. Accidents like falling on track & casualty, electrocution by electric overhead lines happens . Office timings in Mumbai city needs to be staggered. Govt authorities needs to take initiativre in this regards.

In Mumbai city Travelling in local has become so hectic due to heavy rush & baggages carried by daily travellers. In this regards i will like to share some views 1) Ban on backkpacks shall be done in local trains 2) If ban is not possible, government shall literate people how to travel in a local train, how to carry back pack / sack, how many things shall we carry, 3) How to use Mobile in local train etc. I hope this will reduce rush in trains by more than 30% to 35%

Railway land are mainly wasted. In cities like Delhi we can not expand horizontally, why we don't go vertically or under ground. We can build malls and hotels above railway stations and big parking. This will not only safe space and cost and land is expensive but space above the existing land which railways have is free. grow vertically and below ground, increase platform numbers to reduce crowd and earn more money. Take the help of private developer to create infra if required
