Section 161 of Railway act indicates “If any person driving or leading a vehicle is negligent in crossing an unmanned level crossing, he shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year.”

Section 131 of the Motor Vehicle Act indicates that “Every driver of a motor vehicle at the approach of any unguarded railway level crossing shall cause the vehicle to stop and the driver of the vehicle shall cause the conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person in the vehicle to walk up to the level crossing and ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side and then pilot the motor vehicle across such level crossing, and where no conductor or cleaner or attendant or any other person is available in the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle shall get down from the vehicle himself to ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side before the railway track is crossed”

However due to non-following of relevant rules by the road users, many accidents are occurring resulting in loss of precious life  at unmanned level crossings.

Suggest solutions for reducing accidents at unmanned level crossings.

More awareness to people about unmanned crossing through mobile [whatsapp, facebook].In rural area through messages. At the time of providing driving licences, they should provide adequate knowledge to applicants about Unmanned level crossing. It if foolish to convert unmanned level crossing to manned level crossing. As far as possible more unmanned level crossing to be provided automatic closing/opening of gates during train services.

Our relatives had faced robbery in Danapur Chandigarh exp that happened in East Central Railway yesterday near Buxar, the entire stuffs (luggage, jewellery, cell, cash etc) were looted, nothing was spared except their life. Repeatedly made call to DRM/Danapur N.K.Gupta 'NO RESPONSE', call to ADRM/Danapur B.K.Singh, he disconnected. This is the second robbery that had happened in that section. No sign of progress seen so far. I Request PM ofc and Min. of Railways to look into this issue.

A warning siren should be installed at all unmanned crossings and its hooter should automatically go on when the train is at a distance of half a KM from the crossing.

A car driver suggested that a roving camera with high resolution could be installed on the engine of each train with a display panel within. This could alert the railmen of wandering animals, humans attempting suicide, any blocks on the railtrack etc as a warning system. This may be useful on straight terrains. A walkie talkie set to alert railway police of such cases may also be provided. Found it an excellent suggestion to be reached out to

APPROPOS THE RAILWAYS BUDGER! AVERAGE SPEED OF RAILWAYS IS TOO LOW-RAJDHANI AVERAGE SPEED IS 70 KMPH & FREIGHT TRAINS IS 25 KMPH.AGREE WITH MINISTER THAT SPEED CAN BE INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY WITH ADDITION OF MULTIPLE TRACKS.TRAINS HAVE TO WAIT FOR EACH OTHER-CAUSING LOTS OF WASTED TIME.GOODS TRAINS HAVE TO MAKE WAY FOR SUPERFAST TRAINS THUS SLOWING AVERAGE SPEED.REMOVING BOTTLENECKS WOULD RESULT IN DOUBLING GOODS TRAINS SPEED-THIS IS NEEDED AS IT IS THE REAL MONEY SPINNER & NOT PASSENGER TRAIN.
