Chandigarh has been shortlisted by Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Government of India, as one of 100 cities to participate in the Smart City Challenge. As part of the challenge, 20 cities will be selected for the first round of funding in FY 2016 based on evaluation of their Smart City Proposal (SCP) submitted. A key component of the SCP requires the city to identify smart city initiatives that can be implemented to improve infrastructure, enhance the quality of life and offer a clean and sustainable environment to its citizens.
As part of the exercise, the administration is conducting conduct polls where citizens are requested to vote for the following:
a) Identifying Area for development (three options have been proposed) through Retrofitting development mode (augmenting existing infrastructure facilities by leveraging new technologies to enhance the service delivery capabilities)
b) Identifying key issue for the area selected ( a indicative list has been proposed)
c) Selecting Pan City Solution for the city ( a indicative list has been proposed)
d) Provide consensus for Greenfield development along Vikas Marg
