f. In this broad framework we should work out the curriculum and pedagogy, teacher preparation, systemic functioning and finances. g. Without such a unifying framework fragmentary ideas however appealing and innovative may not add-up to a coherent policy. I could not understand in which group these thoughts belong; this group seemed to be the closest. Sorry if I am wrong.

largest democracy. This leads to the nurturing of an Indian identity which is democratic and equalitarian. d. We are situated in a fiercely competitive (economically) and strife torn world. Each one of us has to learn to deal with this without losing the highest values of humanity, Indian-ness and democracy. e. We have various challenges before our nation ranging from economic, political to moral. Various inequalities and injustices and malfunctioning of systems have to be faced squarely. f.

1. What I mean by broad policy framework is as below: a. I do not know where to post this, but the issue seems to be important to me. 1. There should be a clean list of the themes from which one can choose without gong though all discussions in a very unwieldy manner. 2. There should be a general theme to discuss possible policy framework and general tenor of the policy. This will enable people to have real discussion on policy rather than just predefined themes.

Comprehensive education is need of the hour. This calls for major revamp of the education system. Many of the subjects being studied in schools need to be reduced and instead the time should be spent of ethics, physical fitness, life skills etc. More importantly, the assessment method should include practical application and not only examination. Employability issues are linked to communication, planning, teamwork etc which do not form part of curriculum at all. This needs to change

The reason we have high rates of corruption and crimes against women in our country is lack of moral values and ethics. The school curriculum must involve moral values. Moreover, teachers scolding or beating students is like putting fear in mind of the students to do their job. It should not be fear which drives the learning process of a student, but interest, passion and curiosity. A student mustn't be judged by his/her scores in exams but his application of knowledge when challenged.
