Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

अध्ययन-अध्यापन और ज्ञान पर ही समाज का पूरा भविष्य आधारित है।अध्ययन-अध्यापन और ‘ज्ञान’ समाज सुधार और जीवोद्धार तथा सुखी-सम्पन्न समाज हेतु सर्वप्रथम सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण एवं सभी के लिए ही एक अनिवार्यतः आवश्यक विधान है विद्यार्थी ही भावी समाज का कर्णधार होता है। "गुरुजन बन्धुओं को चाहिए कि सबसे पहले विद्यार्थियों को शिष्टाचार का व्यावहारिक पहलू मजबूत करें ! ‘सत्यं बद्; धर्मं चर ! (सत्य बोलें और धर्म पर रहें-चलें !)’ अध्ययन का मूलमन्त्र होना चाहिये । इसकी व्यावहारिकता पर सबसे कड़ी दृष्टि होनी चाहिये

विद्यार्थियों का समुचित विकास किस प्रकार हो, यह पूरी जिम्मेदारी गुरुजन बन्धुओं पर ही होना चाहिये । सुधारात्मक अनुशासन विद्यार्थियों पर बराबर रहना चाहिये । इसके साथ ही किसी भी पारिवारिक व्यक्ति को गुरुजन बन्धुओं के अनुशासन में दखल नहीं देना चाहिये । अपने पुत्र-पुत्रियों को गुरुजन बन्धुओं के निर्देशन में ही सदा रखना चाहिये ।

Elementary Education is a base of our education system so Govt. should be appoint a well qualified teacher to give proper education to the children. We find that there is a lack of education in the students who study in the basic schools.parents send there child in the school for only scholarship and mid day meal. we should encourage parents to send there child in the school for education only. So the Govt. should stopped scholarship at primary level.

What is fed in the initial years results into a healthy and sturdy fellow in all aspects in the later years.So it is imperative to lay utmost emphasis during the formative years of a child.This can be ensured by providing the best of teachers in the elementary schools.Besides this if the young minds are inspired in the vernaculars will for sure turn the things around. Sadly enough teaching through lingua franca has not been given the attention that should be accorded to it.
