Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

Most of the students face difficulty in understanding a subject which is in English language so they do rote learning, and some students even struggle till College level because of this. The learning capacity of any student is maximum if he reads anything in his mother tongue. Therefore, for most efficient learning, all the education should be in Hindi/local language, and atleast 1 course should be there in local languages. Hindi will unite India, and local languages will also prosper.

Following points can enhance education level of schools: * Link the Salary hikes/Promotions of Govt school teachers to the performance of their students in exams. * It should be made mandatory for all Govt officials (including Govt teachers) and Elected leaders(MLAs, MPs, Ward Members) to enroll their children in nearest govt school. * Students generally have habit of mugging the questions and answers, instead they should be promoted to learn the subject, visualize its practical importance.

A very very important part is Hand writing. We shuuld include this as a subject in 5th and 6th standard. Apart from that, To make little childs open in speaking we should include singng a song to his/her monther. so that they can atleast express. since mother is close to them they can happily sing a song

Moral values to young minds should be inculcated through stories illustrated in Panchatantra, Mahabharata, and Ramayana. That is how great lives like Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and others are nurtured to rise to such heights.

सबसे ज्यादा जरूरी है कि स्कूल जाने कि उम्र निश्चित हो , 3.5 साल से कम के बच्चे के स्कूलों को तत्काल प्रभाव से बंद कराया जाय । 3.5 साल से अधिक के बच्चों को ही स्कूलों मे दाखिला मिले ।

The 1970s and 1980s education gave importance to moral studies. There were more stories and chapters about having good character and good behaviour through historical stories. But, of late specially I think after 1986 education policy Science and Maths have got importance. Children are more interested in materialistic world than becoming good human being. So, we have to reorient our primary and secondary education to more about moral studies and stories like Panchathantra, Jataka etc. stories.

There is no holistic approach for an education year (June to March). All plans and activities for next education year should end by March. In June, when school starts there should not be anything pending interms of policy or resources. Now textbooks, uniforms and teaching materials are given to the children at the end of the education year in many states. Ideally by March, all the resources for next education year should be ready.

I am suggesting following point for quality education: Education policies should be secular. cost of textbooks and note books should be reduced. For every 20 students one teacher should be appointed. Donation should be strictly banned.

All states have sufficient schools. But there are many issues in there operation - Need to monitor attendance of teachers - Need to educate parents to send there child to schools (today they just go for mid-day meal) - Technology needs to be embedded in schools - Need intervention of orgs. like Akshya Patra - more competitions/opportunities for students required to motivate them to learn more and explore
