Several studies have shown that school children do not seem to acquire age appropriate skills in reading, writing and numeracy. There is a need to explore the various approaches to improve teaching–learning at the elementary stage. The objective of this theme is to understand the issues of low learning achievement levels in elementary schooling, assess the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation and suggest ways and methods of improving the learning outcomes of school children which would result in enhancing the quality of elementary education.

The new policy should free kids from carrying luggage like bags in schools. Present generation students are lagging behind in creating logic for solving a problem, so they should be more involved in activities. So learn by action should be our policy to compete the modern world. In addition, the primary school should have three tier kids training system: I Tier: by regular subject teacher, Guardian check by locals and higher grade teachers during II and III Tier respectively.

There should be a body that can check regularly twice or thrice in year at least of the progress of the students along with teachers capability to teach them well or not and there should be some norm for that.

An education should focus not only on knowledge development but on the growth of creativity, attitude, moral and other skills. Our school evaluation system should focus on all these aspects. Do not simply examine the papers. Elementary school children should not be kept in the classroom for the whole day. They should go to the ground or field work for at least an hour every day.

Primary/Elementary education is the one which needs expertise and it is more challenging than the higher education. So more skilled faculty should be employed here and they should be paid incentives in par with the higher class. In elementary education, teachers should not give lectures or try to cover the syllabus but they should make sure that each and every child is able to follow what they teach.Individual attention is very essential at this stage.
