The mandate of the Ministry of Culture is to preserve, promote, explore and share India’s culture and heritage along with ethos and values for the benefit of mankind. For achieving this Mission, the Ministry undertakes the following activities:

• Maintenance and conservation of heritage, historic sites and ancient monuments
• Administration of libraries
• Promotion of literary, visual and performing arts
• Observation of centenaries and anniversaries of important national personalities and events
• Promotion of institutions and organizations of Buddhist and Tibetan studies
• Promotion of institutional and individual non-official initiatives in the fields of art and culture
• Entering into cultural agreements with foreign countries

The functional spectrum of the Ministry ranges from creating cultural awareness from the grass root level to the international cultural exchange level. Details about several Schemes which are administered by Ministry of Culture for providing financial assistance for promoting cultural activities are available on the Ministry’s website (http://indiaculture.nic.in/).

Also, various organizations under the Ministry of Culture organize cultural programs and events from time to time.

The Ministry has decided to invite suggestions from the public regarding innovative ideas for effective use of Media in promoting Indian Culture and Heritage.

It is requested that the individual suggestions may be limited to about 200 words.

Indian Culture is oldest and most sophisticate. We all are aware of the problems and recently I read Mr. M.k. Agarwal book "Bharat to India"it explains how devil forces are joining hands to destroy devbhumi Bharat":, it is important for every individual to do bit of home work and see who we are and how we are becoming the puppets of western world. We must tell our kids, family, society about our real heros like Aaryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya, S. Ramnujam, C.V.Raman, Shivaji Maharaj etc.

India is land of many cultures. Indigenous culture can be protected and promoted by indigenous peope or else no one will. Mass movement can happen to understand the lost wisdom of the heritage and culture through media under separate section and incentives provided by government. Sponsored annual contests like Debates, quiz, sports, programmes and research on the wisdom can get publicity and participation through media. Measure these by indegenous wisdom index to get the sense of value.

3) Focus on the unexplored heritage sites/monuments and use those images in tourism campaigns rather than the popular and known ones. 4) Make these places a part of the tourist circuits by encouraging tour operators to cover these places. 5) Prepare a cultural calendar which lists out all important fairs/melas/music festivals etc across India. Not many people in the south are aware of the Tansen music festival and not many in the north know about the Thyagaraja music festival.

1) Digitize all manuscripts and ancient books from oriental libraries like Saraswathi Mahal library, Baroda Oriental library etc and publish them on a website for anyone to view and download. 2) There are several individuals who hold valuable manuscripts on medicine, music etc. all over India. They donot seem to know the value of those material. Launch a scheme to collect it from them and store it in the Government archives.

A feeling of love and respect for our heritage and cultures should be developed in the new generation. There are people who are used to criticise our culture on various types of their studies. Media should conduct debates on this topic and for pro Indian culture emminent people or any person who can inculcate positive feeling should be selected.
