Indian National Defence University Bill, 2015 proposes to establish a world class fully autonomous institution of National Importance under Ministry of Defence. University will develop and propagate higher education (PhD, M Phil, M Tech and M Sc) in National Security Studies, Defence Management and Defence Technology and promote policy oriented research on all aspects relating to national security, both internal and external. It would also encourage awareness of national security issues by reaching out to scholars and an audience beyond the official machinery. It will also serve as a think tank contributing to policy formulation and debates on security and strategy. INDU will inculcate and promote coordination and interaction not just between the three Armed Services but also between other agencies of the Government, the Civil Bureaucracy, Para Military Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, Intelligence Services, Diplomats, Academicians, Strategic Planners, University Students and officers from Friendly Foreign Countries. It would create synergy between the academic community and Govt functionaries. It would make available opportunities for higher studies through distance learning to interested military personnel.

Initially, four new colleges / institutions, namely School of National Security Studies, School of Defence Technology, School of Defence Management and Centre for Distance and Open Learning are proposed to be set up at main campus at Binola, Gurgaon. The four existing Defence Institutions namely National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad, Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington and National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune are proposed to be brought under the ambit of INDU without diluting their powers or autonomy for award of degrees and diplomas.

The last date for sharing inputs on Draft Indian National Defense University Bill, 2015 is 21st August, 2016.

The nine objects of the INDU are already being achieved by either exiting military establishments or come from synergizing with other universities and institutions. For a university that will be established in the land of Kautilya, the proposed framework appears too narrow and centered on the military aspects of security. Shifting the focus from defence to "Security" will offer better scope for depth and range. Security studies after all have evolved to areas far away from ..contd../-

I think it's a great step top create professional soldiers(Though our troupes are already professional,I really don't have any doubt on it).Under a single umbrella they can get vast exposure of different styles and kinds of defense knowledge. Of course people win the war not the weapon,but in this information age weapons are playing a vital part in modern warfare. Though the enemy is knocking the door,we need to be hurry to get the best gears for the soldiers and STEALTH aircraft for the Air.

I thin k that its good inisative taken india govt to estavlished such university.but in my view it will be gud if such university open north east valley .as youth of north east showing mre interesting in the field of defence.#@##

सरकार महिलाओ के लिए काफी कुछ कर रही है लेकिन कुछ महिलाये अपने मातृत्व काल में आने वाली परीक्षाओ को नहीं दे पाती है और फिर उनका सेमेस्टर बेक हो जाता है जिसमे उनकी कोई गलती नहीं होती बीएस मजबूरी होउ है तो इस स्थिति में कोई उपाय किया जाना चाहिए।

Should be implemented at the earliest. There are lot of youngsters who are willing to join the defence forces. This will give them the opportunity for directly being the part of it. As Mr. Jagadeesha Pandurangaiah has rightly said, it will instill, discipline and order in the country.

My suggestion is to start the program as soon as possible and ask the interested candidate to work with that colleges..And please don't provide any reservations in that ...i am not against the reservation but instead of providing the reservation in higher classes or in jobs, we should provide the reservation, even all book clothes whatever you want to give give upto 12th and after that let them come with their merit otherwise our system will become handicapped one day.

Great Idea. But no need to start separate college. Instead, course should be implemented in available Govt. institutions with right perspective. Currently colleges are used to get degree but they don't educate students. Students of all major institutions like IITs, IIMs etc seek job abroad and country is left with few candidates with reserved seats. So this institute will also have the same fate if opened separately.

What this univ. should ensure is life time employment, post serving active duty in defense. So, can someone who comes out army on premature retirement be posted in IAS,IFS, IPS, IRS, etc, gov. divisions, because of completing an exacting course from this univ. At least say 50% of the intake. Current IAS intake suits British to groom collectors. We need qualified, experienced and motivated people and not those who by heart anthropology as a subject to become a collector
