India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

1) Promote traditional knowledge of food storage, 2) Documentation of tribal and rural techniques of post harvesting of foodgrains and vegetables will be stressed, 3) Encourage and award farmers who give inputs and knowledge on post harvesting, 4) Implement such traditional knowledge with inputs of modern and scientific methods to store at large scale and 5) Trained the farmers on food storage methods at rural level to preserve their produces.

The best way is to establish a good government owned supply chain that will collect the fruits and vegetables at one storage place and the govenment employeed people will sale those material only. Obviously a good execution is required in this but this will definately reduce the wastage and if anything gets waste the government can generate the revenue from that too. The farmers will get the rates as per the market and government will gain form the recycling of the waste.

Assuming the conditions of roads continue to be a challange, then stratagically locate markets near to production hubs and better integration of production servey and forcasting to allow the farmers to adjust expectations

मसूम बच्चों का अपरहण दिल्ली एनसीआर में :- हाल के महीनो में मासूम बच्चो के अपरहण के घटनाओ में आश्चर्यजनक रूप से वृधि हुई है, विशेष कर राजधानी दिल्ली और आस पास के छेत्रो में ! युवा पिढि के माता पिता अपने बच्चो कि सुरक्षा को लेकर आशंकित हो रहे है। अतः यह आवश्यक हो गया है की विधि व्यस्था से जुड़े सरकारी तंत्र ईश दिशा में गंभीर कदम उठाए ताकि मासूम बच्चे और उनके माता पिता सूरक्षित महसूस करे।

Cold storage facilities to be modernised to prevent spoilage and infestation. Smooth transportation to carry produce from farmland to marketplace. Direct interaction between producers and consumers to be facilitated. Middlemen /unions involvement in the supply chain to be made redundant. Artificial price inflation of food controlled. Farmers to be made tech savvy and taught the importance of nutrition and freshness of food. As a society we should learn to respect our food and prevent wastage.

EVERY RAILWAYSTATION NEAR TO PLACE OF FARMING OF VEGETABLE PRODUCTS MUST---BE EQUIPPED WITH SPECIAL-AIRCONDITIONED/SUITABLE- GOODS WAGON that can be attached to any train passing from that area for shifting the product to the Nearest CONSUMER CITY... With special Railway Vegetable/Milk Procurement Cell and Sale Branch ---- DEVELOPING RAILWAY -SABJI-DOODH MANDI ON RAILWAY LAND-----ENGANGING SMALL POOR PEOPLE /VENDORS TO SELL OF THE PRODUCT OF RAILWAY Vegetable Cell

Good storage and transportation facilities must be implemented. Farmers must be regularly trained on best practices to store the fruit/veg and sell them to trusted co-operatives, etc at fair price set by the govt

areas famous for growth of certain fruits, vegetables in the entire country has to be identified and preventive measures taken and also to suggest much in advance before the fruits / vegetables get ready for plucking and for sale. Storage facilities should be increased in those areas where there is large yield of fruits and vegetables. People should be educated to inform the authorities if any storage is required they can contact the Government for help in storage and also for distribution.

In short term export will be the better answer than creating warehouses facilities and all that infrastructure which will demand huge funds to construct and will also take years. Exportinf them is just like getting rid of the surplus in exchange of money.
