India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

Fruit and vegetable mandis along with cold storages shold be built at every 10 kms or at least one in a block so that minimum wastage will occur during transportation. Also, small vans having cold storage facilities may be used for transportation. Besides that, government should declare minimum support price for each vegetable to safeguard interests of farmers as in case of over supply, market prices of some vegetable fall sharply thus farmers even could not get their investment.

Start am agricultural portal and encourage farmers to gen themselves registered on portal. Farmer can provide information about expected harvesting date and yield (kgs/tonnes) he/she is expecting. This will help co-ordinate transportation of fruits/vegetables and also provide information for government to decide where they have to open up more cold storage areas, control them better and also regulate market price as government have data about yield, selling rate. Portal to help farmer in farming

AS FOR GRTAINS THERE IS A LOT OF NEED FOR WAREHOUSES FOR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES THERE IS A LOT OF NEED FOR COLD STOREGE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING AS IT IS FOR LONG.

Dear Sir, INDIA GOVT. need to open a new dept. called " department of Logistics" which will work on PPP module; it start from the farmers and end with real buyer also this department would work on every small point it not involve not only fruits vegetables but on all items all over INDIA and even this dept. also work on What to do on the Post harvest losses(if any )like to find the sol.as they dug them etc to make something from that.If waste then also getting something in term of resources

Cold storage plants and godowns are essential Construction of these godowns in 50 to 100km range will serve a lot in this programme. These activities boost local economy also

Sir 1. eliminate the jute bag as the primary form of post harvest packaging. If we can recycle plastics and make "plastic crates" as the primary form of post harvest packing, we can reduce waste. 2. Promote cold chain and chilled chain and warehousing in India. Please treat food warehouses as primary type of customer for electricity. They should not face power cuts. 3. Please do away with APMC act and allow PSU and private players to buy food from villages.

1.start more food processing units 2.governmental vegetable mobile vans which will collect farm products and reach it to consumers 3.online central vegetable distributing system 4.excellent distribution network 5.wholesale distribution networks also

by enforcing a common national market of goods and services, throughout the country, in which any food item produced in any farm any where in the country reaches the kitchen any where in the country, without any multiple central or state or local taxes/barriers/harassment/bribes/middlemen. the proposed GST regime must eliminate all local body barriers, all state taxes on such food items, all transport barriers, all employee-cum-bribery barriers, in the chain from producer to consumer.

Respected PM, Perishable vegetables may not wait for a long time for good use. Care is to be taken care for these fruits and vegetables till they reach consumer for quick usage. Effective transport should be made available for these items so that the timely consumption of fruits and vegetables, consumer will not be at loss. Otherwise things may get damaged and people have put money for damaged fruits. Morning Jasmine flowers of Madurai reach Delhi by evening for sale by Air lift if not spoiled.
