India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

Sir to reduce post harvesting losses goverment can buid various cold storages at various district level like in nagpur there is cold store to perserve onions with the help of radio active technology in denmark cold storage technology also used it will benificial in two ways (1) To preserve (2) to control the price of various fruits and vegetables and in that stores various small merchant Also given the priority and solar energy based cold storages also constraced

The transportation of fruits and vegetables should be done with trains, rather than lorries or with lorries containing coolers for reducing the damage to the farmers. wherever trains are available it is best to use trains to decrease the transportation cost as well as damage to the harvested products, by this farmers and consumers both will be happy.

Storage infrastructure to be strengthened. May be part of NAREGA, GIS mapping with logical parameters to be used for identification of locations of storage structures. Toll free number and websites for preservation techniques. A mechanism like Amul to be established

Dear Sir, the need of the hour is to strengthen supply chain from the farm gate to the final consumer. We donot have adequate investments in cold chains which can store produce instead of letting it rot in the open

Crete best equipped seperate market yard in each district & 1 high level equipped with big storage yard in each in 1 state. Sales can be done through Auction online . government should maintain same stock in each state, whereever stock is less , supply it from nearest state. THIS WILL KEEP ALL PRICES OF VEGETABLE UNDER CONTROL ALL THE TIMES.

Since international crude prices are soft right now - follow this process for price adjustments: 1. For any price reduction - 50% to be passed on to consumers as price reduction and 50% to be kept by GOI as tax increase. 2. For any price increase - 50% to be passed on to consumers as price increase and 50% to be contributed by GOI as tax reduction.

Dear PM Sir, sometimes I wonder that in-spite of India being predominantly an agriculture country why we still have so high prices for food grains and vegetables. Sir have you ever thought about it. I have seen food grains being destroyed as kept on open space but still not released for public consumption because if supply increases then price will fall which obviously will impact profit of businessmen. Why people who are already so rich needs more benefits more money at cost of poor people

Jam, jelly, sauce and pickles can be made when vegetables are excess in supply. It's done, but can be done on a large scale involving villagers. Govt must make it mandatory for shopping malls to sell these products.
