India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

dear modi sir, make use of gobar gas from the wastage of cows, so that maximum of lpg savings will be done and also i came to know thathumans wastage also will be changed into gas at china make it also and supply it to factory outlets so that maximum of gas will be saved know

DEAR SIR, ALLOW ORGANIZED RETAILER AND OTHERS BUSINESS ENTERPRISES to build cold storage systems to increase shelf life of agricultural produce.Give infrastructural status.pass the benefits of like R&D benefits which exists in pharma industry.policy should be stable for 25 years.Retail regulator should be appointed like sebi. his role is to make sure 40-50 percent price realized should go to farmers.creating competition among intermediates.it helps in stable supply, fair price to farmer .

There are numerous factors affecting post-harvest losses, from the soil in which the crop is grown to the handling of produce when it reaches the shop. Pre-harvest production practices may seriously affect post-harvest returns. Plants need a continuous supply of water for photosynthesis and transpiration.

I dont think v require huge cold storages coz v hav a huge population n if just distributed properly big money will b saved in building many cold storage ...use th basic trics n problems will b solved ...y so many complications

Ths is actually very simple ..ths loss occur coz f th improper storage management even in transportation ..eg..ths loss wont occur in foreign countries coz they store n stag fruits n vegitables properly in a proper transport vehicle ...in india v think v r saving time by throwing th vegies n fruits while staging n money by using nt clean n nt maintained vehicles..which saves small money givin big loss at th end

1. Faster access to market. Warehouse, transportation and market enabled with cold storage 2. Minimize state govt. regulations and faster access to move products across the states 3. Information is the key. Provide digitized boards and integrate farmers and wholesalers on the availability of food stock. 4. Use Agriculture ministries to research, advice farmers on food processing techniques (canned foods) and modern farming techniques. 5. Open and Free market to determine prices.

Accountability of Nodal Public Grievance Officials is matter of concern in departments such as Posts ,railways ,BSNL etc which effects bulk of our Citizens .The Directorate of Public Grievances in Cabinet Secretariat should be empowered to take disciplinary action against the Public Grievance officials for their inaction .Secretary PG should ensure that public grievances are responded to by the Nodal PG officials .
