India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

government has taken immediate programme that is cold storages were built every mandal head quarter s it helps the farmers who cultivate fruits and vegetables are storage when the supporting price will come. there is no cold atoreges they sold out what the rate fixed by salaries. some time all the dalaries are syndicate. and fix a low price so the farmer had no way to storage that's way the farmer losses. modi sir think about the cold atoregs under government. sector. thank u sir.

Micro Mandis should be established, focus should be done on overall Rural Development, a Rural Marketing support system should be developed, SHG / Cooperative Food Processing Units should be established and various other steps can be taken to prevent post-harvest losses in supply chain of fruits

NEED FOR LIFE FRUITS AND VEGETABLE IS ESSECIAL,BUT VILLAGE TO RETIL SHOP LOOSE MANY ITEMS.WE DEVLOPE DATA FOR THIS PURPOSE AND RECORD PROPERLY THEN WE STOP LOSSES.RECORD AVAILABLE ALSO TO FARMER.

To reduce the post -harvest losses the below precautions has to take. 1. The Government has to inform to former's through market yards/ Agents to produce the specific vegetables in their village as per the population. 2. Quality of seeds has to supply to the former's in order to produce quality of vegetables. So that vegetables will not perishable early . The excess vegetables can be sale to other villages. 3. The quality seeds list information need to inform to former's.

To prevent & preserve fruits & vegetable, every medium size village have one cold storage facelity, which is run by local panchyat ( these will help us to create more jobs also ). Energy consuption will be done with the help of solar panel or local small hydro power plant at near by rivel.

Buses used to transport humans from one place to another. My suggestion is to run special express bus between two places. These bus will pick up fruits & vegetables from villages, on road required places & deliver it to near by city or required places.

Maximum fruits & vegetables are supplied by road transport system. So it takes more time, fuel, higher chance of spoiling. My suggestion is to transport it with special super fast train, which is specially built for it ( with effective cooling system ). These train will go in higher speed, and only major cities have stopage for it. These train collect fruits & vegetables from one place and supply at other place. These cycle will continue at all stopages.

Just like FCI (food corporation of India), we have to construct a lot of cold-chains all over India... The fruits and vegetables can be deep frozen for years in them. This is the only possible option for this problem.
