India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

sir mai toh sirf itna hi kehna chahngi ki hme sabse pehle kisano ko jagruk krna hoga unhe fruits and vegetable ko kaise barbaad hone se bachaya jaye iski jankari deni hogi and unhe hme puri tarah se support and facility provide karani hogi tabhi kuchh ho skta hai.hme kisano ko economically strong krna hoga.

which is lacking.With these simple decentralized technologies prices during the surplus will not be crashed and farmers will not suffer and the consumers will get the produce in the lean season at normal prices and avoid unnecessary and artificial food inflation. Very little standardization of technologies and small funding to farmers from banks goes a long way. You can reduce the freezing refrigeration costs. Use the SUN and his energy whose showering his blessings in major areas of India.

Rajeev Prahladka idea is too good to implement. Another idea is to dehydrate the vegetables and fruits when the production is high in winter months. Dehydrate leafy and other vegetables in opes sun as well as solar based driers and we can preserve them as it is or we can make the powders of them which can be used as soups or re hydrate them.Technologies are simple and available with farmers as well as little advanced technologies with CFTRI etc.It is the political will and bureaucratic action

Farmers sell vegetables at say Rs.10 per kg but when that vegetables comes to city's market it s been sold at Rs.30 to 40 , so on an average 200% rise from the actual cost this HIGH price is commanded by Middle man (Traders) just for storage , wastage and transportation . vegetation generally grows around the city itself so if Govt help build storage capacity and logistics to market from farms multiple middle man traders can be removed from system and inflation will come down & farmers will gain

This can be linked to ganga cleaning plan as mud from drezing activity is ideal for making bricks from which centres of storage can be built using the pot in pot technique . Skill development+ use of mud from gangas cleaning+storage house all targets can be achieved if this policy is implemented well. I am ready to meet any team of experts if they require an elaborate presentation on technical know-how of this idea of Large scale Natural Electric Free Refrigerator.

A out of Box idea of a Eco Frindly and pollution free and Very Economical Natural Refrigration which does not require any electricity and is best suited for Indian Topical climate for effective use too. A large scale model for this project should be tried to see its utility and results. Mini cold storage, fruity/ veggie storage public/ private storehouse in rural location or semi urban areas would create good response at less cost

Respected PM Sir Namaskar,To reduce the post-harvest losses in supply chain of fruits & vegetables, to achieve this goal under post-harvest management encouraging use of "Zero Energy Cool Chambers" and promoting Refrigeration based supply chains along with this auspect the farmers should also be motivated to adopt the new varieties of fruits & vegetables which are having relatively high self life this may reduce post-harvest losses in supply chain of fruits & vegetables.

calculate how much capacity a cold storage area had..that how much vegetable and other things can be stored in it and keep that much of things in cold storage it will reduce the loss of vegetable from dehydration and always supply that much of vegetable and other things to market by which the demand of market can be fulfill it will reduce overlapping and wastage of fruits and vegetable.

Encouraging farmers to put up cold storage facilities in all district head quarters on a cooperative basis. Loans could be arranged through Nationalized banks for which the Government could stand guarantee.Except for operational maintenance the revenue generated through hiring the space to the members should be used for repaying the loan. Care should be taken to ensure that traders does not get inside on false profiles.
