Existence of insanitary latrines is the root cause of manual scavenging. As per the ‘Houselisting and Housing Census Data, 2011’, there were about 26 lakh insanitary latrines in the country in 2011. All existing insanitary latrines need to be identified and either demolished or converted into sanitary latrines under the provisions of the MS Act.

What innovations can be used to convert insanitary latrines into sanitary latrines in shortest possible time?

I am sure with a good CSR initiative and commitment from individuals who can contribute and sponsor toilet facilities, we can set up a special cell that would go into the details of clean sanitation. Once approximate amounts for construction are listed, agencies identified and water resources arranged, this basic dignity of each fellow human being can be addressed. Educating people on sanitation and health aspects would go a long way to clean India.

We are indians and do have quality to do whatever we want so there is no need copy other country, what they are doing. For keeping sanitary latrines, we should attract people(near from latrines) by giving prize for sanitary latrines.a person who give their support, he or she will be nominated for prize. we can also keep payee latrines. from these income, we can keep it clen easily.

I think gram panchayat (local self government) is a most corrupt of the government & is a major cause of police atrocities against the landless agricultural labours (Generally Schedule Castes/Dalits). I think gram panchayat is a closed system and nothing could escape in our village without the permission of gram panchayat khukhani (Karnal). if possible maximum services should be beyond the control of gram panchayat, In Present gram panchayats control the health services, educational services.

Why don't we install auto cleaning toilets & Bio-Toilets? Currently bio-toilets are used in Sweden, US and UK. A composting toilet is a dry toilet that uses a predominantly aerobic processing system that treats excreta, typically with no water or small volumes of flush water, via composting or managed aerobic decomposition. Composting toilets may be used as an alternative to flush toilets in situations where there is no suitable water supply or waste treatment facility available.

today we must respect scavengers and i see scavengers not given any protective guards for their health.today we see insanitary latrines in our areas. though toilets are built they are not maintained properly so new technology must be utilised for a faster cleaning of latrines mainly in local bus stands and railway stations.in my opinion, private sectors must be given a contract basis for 2 years once to clean particular roads toilets and bus stand toilets and scavengers and they must be provided
