Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Rain water harvesting by innovative method 1) all societies should have bore and all rainwater should be immersed there. 2) all roads should have proper drainage system and all water should be diverted to bore and help to increase water table. 3) try to join all rivers. 4) artificial lakes along with small hill with forest should be made to help increase in water table.

we need to educate in our schools about water management which can bring about a great change.we need to emphasize on waste water treatment and invest more into this sector,by doing this we can improve significantly in this sector. The government should concentrate on interlinking of rivers because thiswill be a great step in solving problem of water scarcity.

we need to make STRICT WATER MANAGEMENT LAWS as according to my experience when anything is presented to Indians in form of laws then most of the people follow those laws seriously. So GOI should make strict law regarding water management and should impose penalties on those people for breaking law. This should also be applied on SWATCH BHARAT ABHIYAAN

demand forecasting using IOT can search for a pattern as in data points analysis combined with allocation of water. the skill beyond hardware and software is specialized. exact sequencing of the process and applied analytics on sample study as the concept is clear. As for the water infra mgmt the main task would be to reduce the evaporation / mix of pollutants. Dumping of waste by industries should be the first step to water quality, manage that - sample yamuna in delhi vs in haridwar.

Moat of Coastal regions of India receives good amount of rain fall but unfortunately most of it drains to the sea. So check dams ( vented dams) in all small rivers and streams every few kilometers if constructed properly will solve water shortage in coastal regions and increase underground water level.

(I) Rain water harvesting :- rain water harvesting pit should made to mendatery all government & private institutions premises, new apartments. (ii) The Indian standard code for manufacturing of water taps and valves should be more strict so that any drop leakage can be avoided after long years. (iii) Mineral water purifiers drain out 2-5 glass water to make drinkable water. Those drained out water can be used for bathing, washing & horticulture. This awareness is to be encouraged by TV, radio.

Excellent idea for a Startup. You can use Raspberry Pi to make a prototype. You'll get Intel's IoT kit too. If you can pull this off, it'll be great!

IoT should be used on top priority basis to stop water wastage from leakages in our water supply lines. According to recent news reports around 27% of water is wasted in Mumbai due to leakages. If IoT is used such wastage can be stopped effectively.

Our Water Channels Can be covered with Solar power Panels and same can be distrubuted/to to Local farmers on PPP model to Gram Panchayats and solar power can by given at economical rate to Farmers and Agriculture Related Ind like Milk/Warehouse etc. Maintinance of Water Channel like cleaning/Repairing/Lining/Disilting also be handed over to Gram Panchayats.
