Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

all dams must be installed with spillway so the floods could be avoided( see glory hole in California) and water diverted to low lying areas or construction of big storage at different low level so that water gets accumulated there and this can be used to recharge all borehole in the vicinity by pressure pumping. this water table increase and we could use the natural water storage tank( underground created by nature for storing excess water.

Sir, all state PWD & water supply boards should have dedicated toll free lines & web enabled complaint - suggestion sites. They should have lab testing facilities with daily uplink of the data from across the city / town to be viewed on home page. Independent samples should also be analysed and data displayed. Citizens can upload photos of pipeline leaks or contamination, date - timelined on these sites which will serve as instant complaints which can be attended to & repair monitored online.

Sir, forecasting of weather should improve with the use of digital equipment & newer forecasting software. This will help in better preparedness. Water resources should be better safe guarded, regularly dredged, if required oil / chemical layering on surface can be done in summer months to decrease loss due to evaporation. Households should be provided with individual water meters and usage beyond a basic limit should be charged, after all natural resources are precious.

Water should be strictly ditributed on basis of members in a family or people living in a house ,mostly in areas which are very dry.Goverment has to concentrate equally not only to get water from different resources but also to save it on every scale.

Severe punishment for those road contractors who is not taking care of proper drainage of rain water during construction of road. I have seen many roads in Gurgaon that repaired each year but got damaged after one or two rains.

Dear sir, Every year we are facing flood like situations in cities.we can avoid this situation by constructing water harvesting pits across the roads covered with iron grills across the roads going to low lying areas which can decrease the water logging in low lying areas and increase the ground water levels.this can be a win win situation.
