Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Let us work on this challenge from end as beginning. We will face unimaginable and unmanageable water crisis reasons for which need no elaboration. Have read that Australia has done pioneering work at community level in addressing this challenge. Suggest our High Commissioner in Australia obtain the full details for policy planners at all levels. Water migrations theft riots unrest is foretold.

We need to create more fresh water reservoirs like lakes, ponds etc. This will help raise ground water level, trap excess water from rivers and reduce chances of flooding, help farmers with access to more sweet water and help control ambient temperature in the environment in summer.

Water, Water nowhere, not a single drop to drink!! Need to save rain water in the city. During rain almost 98% water got waste in the city due to lack of planning, bad drainage, potholes etc. Every city municipality engineer/member must set a target to harvest rain water or divert properly to city lakes. This should be measured by putting water meter, same way as water bill charged. The locality save more water will get more funds for development.

Sir : Suggest to start with let us start as a policy in Airports / Govt Buildings - The wash rooms to use the Water which people use in wash basin to be resused in WC / flushing the Toilet . Mostly when we wash our hands in wash basin it is not so dirty and that water can be recycled in WC Cistern and used again. This is done in Japan ; Please let us resuse the water we loose from wash basin in flushing toilets from WC

Sir we can start water treatment plant in some 2 r 3 tier cities were we can treat the polluted water in to clean usable water. I feel this is useful in cities which are near to agricultural land were the the polluted water can be treated and supplied to farm land were there is shortage of water to farmers whereas in other cities it can be re used. I feel the govt should focus on water and sewage management plants or projects.

To attract building societies & townships to instal rainwater harvesting systems, some rewards may be announced. This must become a topic of daily drawing room discussions to spread a word of mouth about the challenges and their solutions
