Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Currently I am working with IT company in Pune and I have seen there is a lot of water waste due to push mechanical and normal water tap, If government restrict to every company and every infrastructure company to install fully automatic taps in wash basins, toilets & bathrooms and also provide subsidy on automatic tap then lot of drinking water will be saved.

Water management systems like recycling waste water for irrigation purposes and other activities should be looked into. Water meters should be put to enable every house to monitor the water used by them on a day to day basis. Some sort of reward or benefit or incentive should be provided to those whose waste water meters indicate conservation to encourage such activities. Expenses are more than income and criticism is more than appreciation in today's world so lets focus on that through this.

Dear PM. Further to my comment. I live in London so do not the know areas of flooding from Monsoon etc. I feel that you would have hardship interfering with the weather. My alternative would be setup maximum sized pipelines across the country from wettest to driest parts. Place old Victorian style pumps along the way, this time supported by solar type engines. This would involve an immense amount to manpower but would be worth the cost and giving employment. Extreme measures are called for.

There are many ideas that people share to conserve water resources but very few look into the water sources that are polluted and getting polluted. From Ganges to the Talakaveri and many more rivers identified and unidentified they are causing illness and polluting due to the way human being treat them. What God provided as a free resource will end up getting heavily priced if this negligence continues. We need to make these polluted waters fit for all life forms. We need revolutionary changes.

The ground water available in plenty in few areas like Jeedimetla, Quthbullapur, Hyderabad but can't be used due to industrial pollution. The water revealed after laboratory testing that it can be used for daily purposes except drinking. But the colour of the water is reddish which is still alarming. Such situations, the government should also think of purifying and using them. In addition rain water harvesting is to be made as a must. It may be to an individual harvest pit or a combined tank.

To sustain human life, the source of water is extreme important. The human body itself made of 70% water.Fresh water, salty water, hard water(mineral added) water are plenty. But right fresh water is the best water for human life.Fresh water wastage to sea has to be controlled.Flows of fresh river to sea must divert to living regions and inter connected with canals.46 river of Kerala fresh water running to sea.The fresh water distribution management is very poorly handled. To conserve& re-cycled.
