Railway should tap space on stations for commercial use, also vacant space near stations should be used like provide land on lease for plantation, waste to energy plants, solar plants etc. Also space in railway quarters should be made multi story by involving employees unions/societies.

Railway posses lot of land along its railway network, which is either encroached or used for throwing garbage, cowdung etc or as open tiolet. It creates unpleasant moments for passengers, revenue loss to railway. It can be utilised for growing vegetables, flowers and some kind offruits by giving it on lease for idle period to needy peoole having no land. By doing so, it will generate extra revenue for railway, create pleasant surroundings and will provide earning to many needy people.

Similar to Airports Authority of India, a company should be created Railway Station Authority of India (RSAI), which should be listed. RSAI can become one of the Navratna. RSAI should develop world class railway stations, e-tendering of Food and Beverages stalls, shopping/hawkers space, development and maintenance of parking space, ensuring cleanliness and generating advertisement revenue. RSAI can generate revenue by developing railway land around the stations.

The food in Shatabdi and Rajdhani (especially in North India) is tasteless and the Menu is same for past 18 years, as a result a majority of travelers (more than 60%) don't like the meals and waste it. This is a huge cost to Indian Railways, hence it is advised that either make it optional or provide quality food with a variety of menu. Another option is to open a Restaurant coach in these trains where people can walk in and eat food as per their choice. This way IRCTC can earn more money.

#railways can Give opportunities to big organization to promote themselves, like they can avil products and service to passengers, give opportunities to startups to work with railway, and advertisement on trains and on its products can grow revenue, also we can use double decker trains, make engine aerodynamic, use of solar energy on roof top of #nonfarerevenue train and most importantly make cut in time of journey & and ensure each train be on time ,

1. Transporting Data is more profitable the moving physical goods
- Become the largest national data carrier (bulk capacity provider to telcos)
- Right of access along railway lines to lay the largest terabit data network.
2. Provide financial services like Western Union
- Railways has a large amount of cash which can be leveraged by a finance spinoff company. Model has worked well for auto-cos, Gen Electric, etc
3. Data mining spinoff (customer data)

Instead of auctioning parking area to outside contractors, the parking for four/two wheelers should be undertaken at all railway stations by the Railway authorities, which will render a courteous services to the visitors as well as will increase the income of the railway administration.
