R.K NARAYAN - MASTER OF CHARACTRISATION OF SOCIETY ACCORDING TO ARISTOTLE CHARACTER IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN A NOVEL/STORY AFTER THE PLOT. AMONGST ALL INDIAN MODERN WRITERS R.K. NARAYAN IS THE MOST PROMINENT WRITER WHO PROVIDES PRECISE AND APT CARACTERIDATION IN HIS STORY PRESENTING A SATIRE ON SOCIETY BUT NOT DIRECTLY FOR THE SHAKE OF MORAL DIDACTIC PURPOSE. HIS PURPOSE IS ONLY TO PRESENT THE TRUE RATIONAL PICTURE .

My favourite Indian author is Ruskin Bond and his 'The Blue Umbrella' is my favourite. His trademark simplicity in setting the narrative and usage of classic character arcs of redemption and empathy were poignantly portrayed. Bond's description of the Himachal village of Garhwal showed a deep bond with nature. I didn't detail the plot as it can be got anywhere, but expressed admiration of his work. Binya, the tourists, old Ram Bharosa & Rajaram were bought to life in so few words nicely.

हमारा पौराणिक ज्ञान विज्ञान आधारित था और हमारी शक्ति था। बाहरी आक्रमणकारियों ने इसलिये सबसे पहले हमारे ग्रंथों को नष्ट किया। जो कुछ टुकड़ों में बचा उसको हमने अपना धर्म समझ कर मान देते हुए पूज्य बना कर पूजा करने लगे। अब वह विज्ञान नहीं धर्म बन गया है। समय की आवश्यकता है कि धर्म को ज्ञान के रूप में पुनर्स्थापित किया जाए। इसके लिए जरूरी है कि जो भी आज का विज्ञान है पहले हमें उसका पूरा ज्ञान होना चाहिए ताकि अपने पुरातन ज्ञान को कसौटी पर कस कर उसकी आज के समय में उपयोगिता और प्रमाणिकता साबित कर सकें

हमारे इतिहास के साथ बहुत अन्याय हुआ है। हम उसी इतिहास को प्रमाणिक मानते हैं जो उन लोगों के द्वारा लिखा गया जिन्होंने हमारे वास्तविक इतिहास को नष्ट किया। उन्होंने न सिर्फ इतिहास नष्ट किया बल्कि विश्व को उस ज्ञान विज्ञान से भी वंचित कर दिया जो उस इतिहास में समाहित था। इतिहास सिर्फ़ राजाओं और रजवाड़ों के जीवनकाल की कहानी नहीं होता। इतिहास ज्ञान विज्ञान की निरंतरता को सुनिश्चित करता है। यह सामयिक है कि अब उसी इतिहास को पुनः लिखने का सुंदर प्रयास किया जा रहा है।

हमारे अधिकांश लेखक सामाजिक ताने-बाने पर लिखते हैं। व्यवहारिक और सामयिक विषयों पर बहुत कम लिखा जाता है। बच्चों के लिए तो यह मान लिया गया है कि सिर्फ पंचतंत्र की कहानियां हैं जबकि बच्चों के लिए प्रेरणादायक लेखन की अत्यंत आवश्यकता है जो उनको राष्ट्रवाद और हमारे गौरवशाली इतिहास के साथ जोड़ सके। सही पाठन सामग्री के अभाव में बच्चों के लिए सिर्फ टीवी और इंटरनेट पर समय बिताने के अलावा कोई विकल्प नहीं है। बच्चों के लिए टीवी पर जो सीरीयल बनते हैं वह भी शायद वास्तविकता से परे होते हैं ‌‌‌‌
