Here are some practical tips you can apply while drafting accessibility guidelines for the product sector:
---
🔑 General Principles
1. Universal Design First – Aim for designs that work for everyone, not just “special accommodations.”
2. Clarity & Simplicity – Instructions, labels, and product use should be simple, intuitive, and jargon-free.
3. Multiple Modes of Use – Provide alternatives (visual, tactile, auditory) so users can interact in different ways.
---
🛠 Product Design Tips
Physical Accessibility
Use ergonomic shapes that are easy to grip for people with limited hand strength.
Avoid tiny buttons, or pair them with tactile indicators.

* Focus on tangible, non-digital aspects: Add more specific standards for physical products, such as requirements for the force needed to open packaging, and standardized tactile markings (e.g., Braille).
* Establish a clear rating system: Propose a simple, universal accessibility label or rating system for products, similar to energy efficiency ratings.
* Integrate emerging tech: Include guidelines for new technologies like AI, AR/VR, and IoT to ensure future products are accessible.
* Mandate third-party audits: Require independent, third-party accessibility audits for products to ensure consistent compliance.
* Formalize a user feedback loop: Mandate a transparent and responsive process for users to report accessibility issues, with a clear timeline for addressing them.

The draft accessibility standards for the Products Sector are a welcome step toward inclusive development. To strengthen implementation, I suggest ensuring mandatory user testing with persons with diverse disabilities before finalizing product designs. Clear guidelines for digital accessibility, tactile features for packaging, and universal design principles must be emphasized. Periodic audits and awareness campaigns for manufacturers and sellers will help ensure compliance. Inclusion of assistive technologies and affordability should also be addressed to ensure true accessibility for all. These standards should not only be legally enforceable but also practically adoptable across industries.

"सभी अभिगम्य उत्पादों में आपातकालीन उपयोग (Emergency Use) के लिए सरल और मानकीकृत सुरक्षा फीचर्स अनिवार्य किए जाएँ, जैसे – आसान पावर ऑफ बटन, श्रव्य/दृश्य अलार्म और हेल्पलाइन कनेक्टिविटी।"

For making any such standards, clear guidelines from manufacturing to usage along with the disposal life cycle of the product needs to be defined. Only making standards will not serve the purpose, its awareness must be spread though digital marketing or through social networks so that the intent will meet the objective of the program
