National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released a Discussion Paper titled “Methodological Improvements in Compilation of National Accounts Aggregates Using Expenditure Approach”. This exercise is part of the preparation for the new series of National Accounts Statistics with FY 2022–23 as the base year, which is scheduled for release on 27 February 2026.

The Discussion Paper outlines the proposed methodological refinements and improvements in the compilation of National Accounts aggregates using the Expenditure Approach, with the objective of enhancing the quality, accuracy, and usability of national accounts data.

Comments and feedback on the Discussion Paper are invited from experts, academicians, government bodies, state governments, financial institutions, users of national accounts data, and other stakeholders. Suggestions may be shared at: ddg3.nad@mospi.gov.in by 7 January 2026.

The auditing system shall identify, non performing departments, not required departments. And the departments wrongly placed under different ministry. Example NRM (Natural Resource Management) is under Ministry of Agriculture. National resources managment is mandate of Ministry of Environment. Similarly Green India Mission. Forest area can not be increased. Greening can happen only in barren lands. Whereas there is no department of Conservation of Endangered species Should be under Environmental ministry

There are untapped potential areas (Refer EAC PM working paper on Agroforestry). The reports shall clearly say the required setup, policy changes, amendments in law, organizational setup, expenditure and expected benefit in 5 to 10 years. There shall be monitering system, the best report prepared person shall be recogonized accordingly Note : TVS motor company, Hosur, recognises the good suggestions and rewarded based on the saving to the company

There are many departments created many decades back, not performing to the expenditure. Like Green India mission and NAEB (National Ecodevelopment Board) under Ministry of Environment. The accounting system shall have provision to moniter based on digital verification and random check using private agencies. Expenditure to Benefit should be arrived for all the divisions in a ministry

Reliable national accounts are very important for policy making, planning, and evaluating the overall economic performance of the country.

Civic Sense and cleanliness is one of the major areas India still lags behind even many developing countries. There are many people who don't use dustbins and spit gutka on the road, railway tracks etc. The major problem in india is mostly the implementation of strict laws. Obviously it's not possible for the govt to deploy millions of overseers who can catch every such wrong doer and extract fines. So I'd like to suggest the govt to use cctv cameras coupled with ai to penalize the wrongdoers efficiently using facial detection (kind of like how it's being done with traffic rule breakers). There should be no compromise with the quality of the shared public space and infrastructure. People must start treating the outside in the same way they do with their home. If they don't care about it, they should be penalized and coerced into doing it.
