Respected Madam, Since the days of the Indus Valley civilization, India has had a rich history of being a force in the handloom industry. After agriculture, the handloom sector is the 2nd largest income generating activity in our country. More than 65% weavers are not able to earn not more than₹5000 per month. It is less than minimum wages. Also there are other problems in the handloom industry including COVID 19. To encourage the handloom industry, I request you to consider a seperate budget allocation to the handloom industry.
"The handloom weaving is in a dying condition. Everyone admits that whatever maybe the future of the mill industry, the handlooms ought not to be allowed to perish."
- Mahatma Gandhiji
I request you to consider this proposal.
