Dear Honorable Prime Minister, India generates significant plastic waste daily, with estimates indicating 27 lakh plastic pens and 5 million plastic toothbrushes are discarded, along with numerous disposable razors. Most of these items are non-recyclable, adding substantially to the plastic burden. Proposed Solutions: Plastic Pens: Promote reusable pens and refills by reducing the supply of low-cost disposable pens (₹1–₹5). Increase taxes on disposable pens while removing taxes on refills to encourage sustainable consumption. Plastic Toothbrushes: Develop toothbrushes with replaceable bristle heads, retaining the durable body. Exempt taxes on bristle heads and impose higher taxes on brush bodies. Plastic Razors: Encourage razors with replaceable blades to retain reusable handles. Remove taxes on blades and increase taxes on disposable razors.
