“Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi” Zero Waste Mahotsav Model
My idea is to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a completely community-driven Zero Waste Mahotsav through a combination of sustainable infrastructure, technology, awareness, and volunteer participation.
A “Green Mela Zone” can be established where single-use plastic is completely restricted and replaced with biodegradable alternatives such as leaf plates, clay cups, paper packaging, and reusable steel utensils through deposit-return systems. QR-coded waste collection points can be installed across the mela area to guide visitors toward proper segregation of wet, dry, and recyclable waste. Smart digital displays and announcement systems can continuously spread awareness messages linking cleanliness with devotion under the theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.
Local schools, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and youth groups can be engaged as “Green Sevaks” to assist pilgrims, monitor cleanliness, and enc
