The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Mahashivratri at Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple, Baghpat, presents a wonderful opportunity to set a benchmark for a Zero Waste Mahotsav rooted in both devotion and responsibility. By completely eliminating single-use plastics, promoting biodegradable alternatives, and encouraging devotees to carry reusable पूजा materials, we can significantly reduce environmental impact. Well-managed waste segregation systems supported by volunteers can ensure cleanliness throughout the event. Floral offerings can be collected for composting or recycling into natural products, while digital invitations and awareness campaigns can minimize paper usage. This initiative can inspire not only the local community but also serve as a model for sustainable celebrations across the country, truly reflecting the spirit of “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” Har Har Mahadev!

Dear sir- I see many people breaking all traffic rules everyday as I drive. This needs to be stopped before it is accepted as a practice. These include driving on the wrong side, overtaking from the left on a left turn , jumping signals etc. to name a few. I think it is not possible to control this with traffic cops. I suggest retired educated people who are interested be authorized to catch such culprits you break the law in their localities and authorize them to collect fines by issuing challans on the spot. This will establish better traffic control and ensure improved safety.
