The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Sustainable tourism is the practice of promoting tourism while protecting the environment, preserving cultural heritage, and improving the well-being of local communities. It ensures that natural and cultural resources are used responsibly so future generations can also enjoy them. Visitor management solutions help control tourist activities to reduce overcrowding and environmental damage. One effective solution is limiting the number of visitors through online booking systems or timed entry tickets. This helps protect sensitive areas and improves the visitor experience. Proper waste management, including recycling bins and plastic-free initiatives, keeps tourist destinations clean. Eco-friendly transportation such as bicycles, electric buses, and walking trails reduces pollution and traffic congestion. Educating tourists about local customs, wildlife protection, and responsible behavior encourages sustainable practices. Governments and tourism authorities can also involve local commun

Project SHIVA 360° (Sacred Human Intelligence for Voluntary Action) is an AI-powered framework that transforms Mahashivratri into a Nature-Positive Religious Festival. It combines a Sacred Environmental Digital Twin, AI-based waste prediction, QR-enabled Green Guardian participation, Green Karma rewards, and a circular economy for temple offerings. A unique Sacred Biodiversity Bank distributes native seed balls to restore ecosystems, while the Green Pulse Index and Nature Balance Sheet measure environmental impact. By integrating technology, behavioural change and ecological restoration, Project SHIVA 360° creates a scalable model for sustainable religious festivals aligned with Mission LiFE, Swachh Bharat and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Provide every pilgrim with a biodegradable clay ball or a small coconut-shell pot embedded with seeds of native plants or holy Basil (Tulsi). Devotees can plant these in memory of their pilgrimage, turning a temporary festival into a permanent green cover for Baghpat.

"Make Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple a Plastic-Free and Zero-Waste Mahotsav by using eco-friendly materials, composting flower waste, segregating garbage, and promoting tree plantation and reusable bags."Mahashivratri is not only a festival of devotion but also an opportunity to protect our environment. Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple can become a model Zero Waste Mahotsav by completely banning single-use plastic and encouraging eco-friendly practices. Separate bins for wet and dry waste should be installed throughout the temple premises. Flower offerings and organic waste can be converted into compost and used for plantation activities. Devotees should be encouraged to carry reusable bags and water bottles. Prasad can be distributed in leaf plates and earthen cups instead of plastic containers. Awareness campaigns, volunteer teams, and cleanliness drives can inspire every visitor to keep the temple clean. Digital banners and announcements can educate people about wa
