During the year 2015-16, India spent Rs.4.82 lakh crores on imports to fulfill domestic demand. To reduce the import burden, and also to work towards to a greener environment, it is proposed to avoid usage of Petrol/Diesel for one day in a week.

Our Hon’ble Prime Minister has urged all citizens to avoid usage of Petrol/Diesel for one day in a week. He has said that if 125 crore Indians pledge to do this, the dream of a ‘New India’ can be achieved.

Citizens are invited to suggest ways for encouraging and motivating the masses to avoid the usage of Petrol/Diesel for one day, every week.

Bharatiya's life and living have been customized hard to use Petrol and Diesel so badly that we can remove ot from out lives even for a day. However in Assam and North Eastern States, these becomes feasible for a day or two. Powerful nexus declared bandh the whole state wide and would resort to hurting physically if someone does not follow the dictate. Such norms has seen vehicles off road nearly 99 percent at times. However this could be at the cost of business and living.

Government should encourage use bicycle in big cities by making separate and safe cycling lane for them. Improving public transport will encourage more people to use them instead of their personal vehicles. Above all, government should actively campaign to make people aware of the consequences of air pollution caused by petrol or diesel driven vehicles.

The following ideas can be used: 1. Conducting bicycle sports events in all the main cities with the help of celebrities. 2.Making a rule that all the major IT parks should not allow vehicles inside the premises(main gate) instead, they make readily available bicycle which can be utilized only in the premises. 3.increasing the parking charges for petrol/diesel run vehicles and giving free parking for CNG and other non-petroleum product fuel vehicles. 4.making separate road lanes for cycles

This is an excellent suggestion. We must avoid petrol/diesel use one day in a week to reduce our fuel imports. I recall from childhood days, Shastriji the then PM, had given a call to skip one time-meal in a week to save food. I still follow it. My humble request to all citizens is to observe the call given by our PM Modiji. I will follow it myself. Prof. Pramod Tandon, CEO, Biotech Park, Lucknow

Yes its a perfect idea. instead we can use cycle or walking down to access public transport which is helpful for health as well. This is my routine weekly 3 days to ride cycle, 2 days to ride bullet to office (9-10 KM) and remaining 2 days in the weekend by walk or public transport. this is I do for my health and along with me 2 more guys do the same and this works great to keep us fit without any additional workout.

Great Step, Most of youngsters will support this, providing a free special hand-Band/Badge/T shirt with print "I don't use P/D today" to school, college and university Students, ask them to wear with pride on the day they don't use Petrol or diesel. It will make the campaign spread faster. This can be done with non student communities also. Thank you.

Yes. I agree with Prabhat Rai... #mygov should start encouraging the people to take public transport at free of charge 1 day per week using their identity card (To track the passenger) as a Pilot Program atleast for sometime so people will get used it. I would assume this would not cost much to govt with the amounts it is waiving for other reforms (Farmers Loan etc which is for good cause). At the end the money is being collected from Citizens itself.
