The National Commission for Women, a Statutory Body set up in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 has the mandate to safeguard the constitutional and statutory rights of women. The Commission initiates program which aids empowerment and holistic development of women so that they are capable to gain access to opportunities and make their own decisions.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was launched in 2000 by the U.N General Assembly. It is observed annually on November 25th. International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women seeks to raise awareness about violence against women. This day aims to eliminate violence by removing stigma and encouraging women to speak out against abusers. This day defines violence against women as any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or psychological harm to women. The goal of this day is to achieve equality, development, and peace. It aims toward the fulfillment of women's and girls’ human rights.

In pursuance of its mandate and in order to achieve the goal of ‘Elimination of Violence against Women', the Commission invites inputs, suggestions, and feedback from all stakeholders through MyGov Portal, with a focus on Breaking the Silence against Gender Violence. The aim of the programme is to promote equality, development, and peace among the masses.

The last date to receive suggestions/input is 24th December 2021.

Sir, I belong to Nirbhaya family. women in our society are well established. All faults are solely with man in society. there may be few exceptions. Any criminal of rape etc after FIR or chargsheet in court , without court permission-should not be allowed for bank loan or job. Should not be given passport. Tansection of family or individual property should be ceased. If order of punishment by court, then 25% of criminal properties should be transferred to victims.

Special squads formed for tackling violence against women are dormant & sidelined. The cops posted in these squads should be offered higher payouts on the lines of ATS & ACB as also one step promotion. Financial support & amenities may also be enhanced.

Elimination of violence against women is not a simple thing. Women have been for too long depicted as weak, dependent, punch bag, thing to be enjoyed and nothing but a trouble maker for too long. It is not an easy task to change this mind set just by passing some protection laws or protection force to take resort to. We need to bring about the change in this attitude and transform to that of respect, adoration and high regard right from childhood. This is the only permanent solution.

Women are good at everything. They're equal with men in all aspects. But in our society women are meant to cook and taking care of kids. In most of rural areas as men are breadwinners of family they think women is like a puppet. In order to prevent violence parents should educate there children to give respect to girls and treat them equally.
