As part of the 'Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a series of events are being organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

Through this MyGov activity, we aim to revisit history and acknowledge our local heroes whose struggles during the Freedom Movement have not received prominence in the conventional storyline. Let's raise awareness about our freedom struggle & the unsung heroes associated with it. It’s time that the contributions of fighters like Veer Gundandhur, Velu Nachiyar, Bhikaji Cama, etc. see the light of the day.

All those who help young minds and poor fellows in overcoming the challenges, and freeing them from darkness of ignorance, are modern freedom fighters and of course, there are many such unsung heroes. I know one such unsung hero. who is my school teacher (now retired from his service) . He has transformed LIVES of at least hundred students who were extremely poor and could not afford studying outside. This was impossible for those 100 boys and girls. I am one of them. He has created, rather transformed 100 such Engineers and Doctors and empowered their families. Happily, they all are doing great just like me, honored with 12 International/national awards/recognitions. My such unsung HERO, my school teacher HAS FREEDED me from hundred years of darkness, slavery to old-labour system in my village wherein my mother and father were struggling to feed us (we 3 brothers). This is my teacher unsung HERO who could transform my life and I have been proudly reciprocating to society.

Kittur Chennamma (14 November 1778 – 21 February 1829) was the Indian Queen (Rani) of Kittur, a former princely state in present-day Karnataka. She led an armed resistance against the British East India Company in 1824, in defiance of the doctrine of lapse, in an attempt to retain control over her dominion. She defeated the Company in the first revolt, but died as a prisoner of war after the second rebellion. As one of the first and few female rulers to lead rebel forces against British colonisation, she continues to be remembered as a folk hero in Karnataka, she is also an important symbol of the Indian independence movement. Rani Abbakka Chowta was the first Tuluva Queen of Ullal who fought the Portuguese in the latter half of the 16th century. She belonged to the Chowta dynasty who ruled over parts of coastal Karnataka (Tulu Nadu), India. Their capital was Puttige. The port town of Ullal served as their subsidiary capital. The Portuguese made several attempts to capture Ullal.

GOVIND GURU (GOVINDGIRI) Govindgiri, also known as Govind Guru, (1858–1931) was a social and religious reformer in the early 1900s in the adivasi-dominated border areas of present day Rajasthan and Gujarat states in India. He is seen as having popularized the Bhagat movement, which was first started in the 18th century. ◆EARLY LIFE : Govindgiri was born in a Banjara family in the village of Bansiya (Hindi: बाँसिया) in Dungarpur State (now in Rajasthan). He gave himself a primary education with the help of a pujari in his village. He is reported[3] to have been a hali (a 'hali has been described as a worker "not employed at their own convenience but maintained as permanent estate servants, and not regarded to be in a position to resign services"). His wife and child reportedly died in the famine of 1900, after which he moved into the neighbouring Sunth State. There, Govindgiri married his brother's widow and, soon after, became the disciple of a Hindu monk (gosain)
