As part of the 'Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a series of events are being organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

Through this MyGov activity, we aim to revisit history and acknowledge our local heroes whose struggles during the Freedom Movement have not received prominence in the conventional storyline. Let's raise awareness about our freedom struggle & the unsung heroes associated with it. It’s time that the contributions of fighters like Veer Gundandhur, Velu Nachiyar, Bhikaji Cama, etc. see the light of the day.

This is your chance to tell the story that must be told and honour the freedom fighters who have played an important role in making our nation free.

Share the stories with all the details and celebrate Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with us.

Submission of Entries:
• All the entries must be submitted online through www.mygov.in

Please refer to the recently published book "History of the Andaman Islands" written by me to document and showcase the real history of India's freedom struggle connecting the Andaman islands. The book for the first time unearths many unknown heroes and untold stories and provide a new window to know the real history of the Andaman Islands based on interviews, field research and archival studies...Martyr Diwan Singh Kalepani and Durga Parshad are few amongst those unsung heroes..

Freedom of mind is the real freedom. A person whose mind is not free though he may not be in chains, is a slave, not a free man. One whose mind is not free, though he may not be in prison, is a prisoner and not a free man. One whose mind is not free though alive, is no better than dead. Freedom of mind is the proof of one's existence.”

“Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, where knowledge is free. Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls. Where words come out from the depth of truth, where tireless striving stretches its arms toward perfection. Where the clear stream of reason has not lost it's way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit. Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever widening thought and action. In to that heaven of freedom, my father, LET MY COUNTRY AWAKE!” ― Rabindranath Tagore, Gitanjali: Song Offerings

Father of the Revolution Lahuji Raghoji Salve (14 November 1794 - 17 February 1881) was an Indian revolutionary. On 17th November 1817, paying homage to his father, he erected his father's Samadhi with a revolutionary pledge of 'If I die for the country and if I live for the country'. This Samadhi is still at Wakdewadi near Pune-Shivajinagar.Lahuji was adept at all the martial arts such as running a belt, fencing, horse riding, shooting a gun and shooting arrows. It was just like a toy with deadly weapons. The death of his father and the defeat of the British made Lahuji unbearable. The Lahujis of the mighty dynasty decided to defeat the British by creating an 'extremist revolutionary, not a Maoist' for the independence of the country. For this, he started teaching martial arts to the youth. In 1822, Nana Raste Sardar started the first training martial arts training center in the country at Rasta Peth, Pune. Youngsters from all walks of life started coming to this training center
