My parents taught me marathi when i was young, and slowly learning hindi and some devnagari script. I try to baalnce my indian culture with my Australian and New Zealand identities. I feel NRI's should share their culture but do not force it, my parents joke people overseas are more India. By staying in enclaves and not mixing with other people prevents sharing cultures and is the reason sometimes immigrants are perceived negatively. It is best to celebrate and learn all cultures.

We have a Jain Group in NYC, besides pooja, the children speak in Hindi once they enter Temple, are taught sign in Hindi followed by Hindi & Sanskrit classes. There are relegious books written in Hinlish. Kids prepare for a Music Dance Drama based on Jain culture and give performance twice a year. What I want to convey is that Indian culture is being made to propagate by NRIs.

Teaching Indian culture means not only taking kids to religious places like temple or recite them some prayers. Mainly we need to understand first about our own culture and deeper meaning of things told by old saints. We JUST KEEP on saying that we have great culture and heritage but not sure or aware about the details. We need to cut down 30 min from daily activity to know which rich cultural heritage we belong.

90% of NRI don't make an HONEST attempt to teach (Read,Write and Speak) their mother tong. This thing should not be forced on kids but we need to create liking in their mind about our language by creating proper environment during family time. Next step is to introduce them to movies / books of great indian historical figures and saints. MOST importantly we need to do more research on internet to answer their doubts and question about our culture.

Does anyone think that "Services in Embassy" is the major problem we all deal with. Same old "BAABU CULTURE". Officer on High posts are more worse in all manners.

After launch of Smart Passport, We can retain Indian Passport after being overseas citizen of India. and having same rights as indian citizen so it may feel inclusive for indian origin people who live overseas.

A very pressing question in the Middle East, how do we promote the Indian Culture in this region which is not very tolerant to other religions. Any ideas will be welcome
