Khadi is not merely a piece of cloth. It is a philosophy. A way of life. A symbol of empowerment, self-dependence, pride of history, Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of the relevance of roots.

As Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi on his radio program “Mann ki Baat” on 3rd October, 2014 said that “we must promote the use of Khadi and we should buy at least one Khadi article. If you buy Khadi, you light the lamp of prosperity in the house of the poor”.This appealled to an increase in Khadi sales by 125% at the various outlets in India. This reflects a latent demand for Khadi, which needs to tapped which in turn will create rural employment. Potential consumers of Khadi could be schools, hospitals, Railways, PSUs, Army, Para-military forces, Fashion houses etc.

USP of the Khadi product is its eco-friendly, almost carbon neutral nature, which leaves near zero water footprints. It is socio-economically sustainable textile product. It’s an all-weather and allergy free fabric. Hence, Khadi use is a step towards ‘Zero Effect’ and ‘Zero Poverty’ India.

Currently, people employed in Khadi sector are earning Rs.1200 to Rs.1800 per month. MGIRI Wardha has developed a Solar Charkha which can increase the earnings to four times the existing one, cutting the drudgery along.Taking the initiative forward, MoMSME is going to start a pilot project in the KHANWA village, Nawada district of Bihar, where 100 Solar Charkhas would be distributed to the rural women for spinning of yarn. Under buyback arrangement with ‘Gram Nirmaan Mandal, Khadi Sansthan, GAYA, these yarns would be weaved into Khadi products. This scheme islikely to provide Rs.5000 to 8000 per month to the women artisans. This model of wage earnings to the rural women has to be scaled up so as to achieve the visionary goal of providing job opportunities to crores of rural women in coming years.

This, in turn is expected to lay a platform for another visionary goal of increasing the market share of Khadi in the textile sector from present 0.4% to 5% in next Five years in first phase.

In pursuance of the above twin visionary goals, you are requested to give your valuable inputs on

1. How to enhance the production and sale of Khadi?
2. How to create a niche for Khadi products particularly among youths and about 2.5 crore NRIs living abroad?
3. How to foster awareness about Khadi products?

The last date for submission of your comments is 31st March, 2015.

The problem with khadi is that it synonyms with the poor people cloth. It should be changed by making it look like a modern thing. asking various designers to promote cloths made from khadi. A platform like flipkart should be formed where all the seller can sell their item online with international delivery system as Indian clothing is famous in foreign countries. Khadi should we used to weave modern style cloths so that it can attract our youth.

Continuing from my earlier post : The local 'Bachat Groups' can be made in to cooperatives. The management inputs to the societies to be given by Institutes of Rural Management at district level. There should not be any influence of political parties in the whole system. Strong marketing inputs and organisation is of utmost impotane to make this a success.

We can replicate the model used for 'Operation Flood' for milk by Dr Kurien in Amul. There can be village cooperatives where the local women/men buy their raw material and the society buys the yarn. The society can also start value added industry like bag making, sarees, shirts. including printing etc. The industry could be among the cluster of villages which are say within 3/4 km radius so that commuting is not a problem. Group of societies to form marketing set up at Taluk & District level.

Dear Mr. Jaitley, I am writing this to you as i think the limit for the non taxable income should be raised to 05lacs. This is the time where you can think of giving something in the hands of common man to spend and increase his spending power. Last year, this was in your thoughts but due to several constraints you were not able to do so. Please take this bold decision in the interest of common man. To be very honest, lots of people like will look forward for this in your budget. Every year i see the budget with the hope that some thing substantial will come up in the non taxable income bracket, but we have been served only with peanuts. Let the common man be empowered and this will empower the nation. In case this message has reached you, kindly let me know if you will do something. Anticipating a early and fruitful response from you. Thanks and Rgds, Arun

Start COMMUNITY KITCHENS in every village where one time food will be cooked for all who join the scheme. It will save much fuel. biofuel can be used.. All farmers of the village must make a compulsory contribution in kind (as agricultural Product) in proportion of their farm land area. Old, invalids, and all school children will be provided free food from community kitchen. Over and above whatever quantity of food is required will be shared equally by members who partake in daily meals.

What is true education? ""Sa vidhya ya vimuktye" Means education librates us from all types of fear and bondage of life. Then man only performs his duty on this world as the sun, moon and all elements of nature perform their duties.
