Khadi is not merely a piece of cloth. It is a philosophy. A way of life. A symbol of empowerment, self-dependence, pride of history, Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of the relevance of roots.

As Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi on his radio program “Mann ki Baat” on 3rd October, 2014 said that “we must promote the use of Khadi and we should buy at least one Khadi article. If you buy Khadi, you light the lamp of prosperity in the house of the poor”.This appealled to an increase in Khadi sales by 125% at the various outlets in India. This reflects a latent demand for Khadi, which needs to tapped which in turn will create rural employment. Potential consumers of Khadi could be schools, hospitals, Railways, PSUs, Army, Para-military forces, Fashion houses etc.

USP of the Khadi product is its eco-friendly, almost carbon neutral nature, which leaves near zero water footprints. It is socio-economically sustainable textile product. It’s an all-weather and allergy free fabric. Hence, Khadi use is a step towards ‘Zero Effect’ and ‘Zero Poverty’ India.

Currently, people employed in Khadi sector are earning Rs.1200 to Rs.1800 per month. MGIRI Wardha has developed a Solar Charkha which can increase the earnings to four times the existing one, cutting the drudgery along.Taking the initiative forward, MoMSME is going to start a pilot project in the KHANWA village, Nawada district of Bihar, where 100 Solar Charkhas would be distributed to the rural women for spinning of yarn. Under buyback arrangement with ‘Gram Nirmaan Mandal, Khadi Sansthan, GAYA, these yarns would be weaved into Khadi products. This scheme islikely to provide Rs.5000 to 8000 per month to the women artisans.This model of wage earnings to the rural women has to be scaled up so as to achieve the visionary goal of providing job opportunities to crores of rural women in coming years.

This, in turn is expected to lay a platform for another visionary goal of increasing the market share of Khadi in the textile sector from present 0.4% to 5% in next Five years in first phase.

In pursuance of the above twin visionary goals, you are requested to give your valuable inputs on

1. How to enhance the production and sale of Khadi?
2. How to create a niche for Khadi products particularly among youths and about 2.5 crore NRIs living abroad?
3. How to foster awareness about Khadi products?

Invite film stars and cricketers to adopt one woman khadi worker each (just like they were invited for the swachha bharat campaign). They will wear the kurtas/shirts woven by that woman worker and publicize the same. Also, sponsor a fashion show to promote khadi and mention the name of the village and the woman designer and invite her on stage. This will encourage more women to come forward and engage themselves in this art, thereby promoting employment

Make Khadi T Shirts - with Tag Lines promoting Khadi and the countries vision. Create Memorebella Scarfs and T Shirts on India that could be brought by tourists Create the readymade versions of our Traditional Attires like Sarees and Dhothies which will be easy to tie, which you can in turn encourage the youth to wear on days of national importance - there by making the culture live. As suggested by many other people, tie up with E Commerce websites to sell these products

please make khadi clothes to be sold online through e commerce....it will surely be a good option where these poors can receive orders for their clothes and need not to worry about their sales....just focus on cloth making process

To increase the buyers of khadi: 1) Make it worn by an indian hot icons like Anushka ,Hrithik. The youth rever them and try to simulate them. Though it will be a high investment , profits can be realised later. 2)govt should increase the subsidies given to khadi weavers, cost should be made buy worthy by middle men. It must be easily avaiable to comman man. Firstly ask them to sell their cloth in small vans or at local bandars which can reach the comman man. 3)promote khadi in movies(compuls

(contd) absorber is the common man. The only fuel for cooking nowadays is the LPG. If this is also expropriated, then, the switch over will be to the electricity. This will again result in the power shortage and staggering, etc. If basic amenities like the drinking water, electricity and food items are scarce and not available, this will lead to civil unrest which is not conducive. Do we have to follow the Bangladesh model or American model, only time alone will have to decide.

If Audit is conducted of all such firms, it would reveal that the actual cost of production and marketing will be much lower than the cost being sold at retail market. (contd.) to be supplied as hithertofore to all groups and segregating and totally secluding them will be a step not only in the retrograde direction but also will bring bad reputation. I wonder as to why LPG cannot be supplied to all households through laying of pipeline instead of manufacturing in large scale cylinders which is highly uneconomical. Why not the Govt. embark upon the scheme of erection of pipelines and reduce the cost of LPG. The oil firms are, in fact, not incurring any loss

(contd.) hiking the cost of LPG cylinders which was quite priced at Rs.210 or so to more than double the same. While the Govt. headed by Mr. Vajpayee was excellent, the UPA I was also not bad as compared to UPA.II which had over estimated the feelings of the citizens. They were over shot with the outcome of the general elections. Ultimately, they had been unceremoniously ousted through the casting of votes. Similar fate should not fall on the present Govt.
