Innovative ideas on circular economy in E-waste

Today, electronic waste poses a significant challenge for society. With the introduction of innovative features and up-gradation, people are changing their devices by discarding the old ones, thereby contributing to the generation of electronic waste significantly.

Replacing the linear systems with circular in electrical and electronic equipment intends to maximize value at each life-cycle stage by reusing, repairing, recovering remanufacturing, regenerating products and material.

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) observes Swachhata Pakhwada 2022 from 1st February 2022 to 15th February 2022 promoting ‘E-waste se Raksha- Swachhata hi Suraksha’. Citizens are invited to share their innovative ideas on how circular economy practices can help in sustainable and efficient E-waste Management.

The best entries from the citizens will be identified by the Ministry and will be featured on the MyGov page.

The last date to receive suggestions is 15th February 2022.

1) Adopt EPR policy Strategy or Schemes - Extended Producer Responsibility over & above CSR in order to hold producers responsible after the product’s service life, to make it either reusable or recycled more easily. Have EPR legislations & rules. 2) Implement E- Bonus online Card system (EBOCS) for collection, to accumulate bonus on return of End Of Life (EOL) or obsolete products. Use 1 Bonus=Rs100 equivalent. Buyer can use this as life time accumulated bonus while buying new product. 3) Introduce IEA- Indian Environment Agency where all producers must be registered & maintain all records from production to take back to disposal. Create a web application for its data. 4) Establish Community E-Waste Collection center with recycling value chains. And, create Innovation Hubs for repairs activities& E-waste material recovery facilities alongwith training offering economic & ecological gains. 5) Use Drone imagery & Blockchain for increasing transparency in trade& mitigation of waste crime
