Innovative ideas on circular economy in E-waste

Today, electronic waste poses a significant challenge for society. With the introduction of innovative features and up-gradation, people are changing their devices by discarding the old ones, thereby contributing to the generation of electronic waste significantly.

Replacing the linear systems with circular in electrical and electronic equipment intends to maximize value at each life-cycle stage by reusing, repairing, recovering remanufacturing, regenerating products and material.

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) observes Swachhata Pakhwada 2022 from 1st February 2022 to 15th February 2022 promoting ‘E-waste se Raksha- Swachhata hi Suraksha’. Citizens are invited to share their innovative ideas on how circular economy practices can help in sustainable and efficient E-waste Management.

The best entries from the citizens will be identified by the Ministry and will be featured on the MyGov page.

The last date to receive suggestions is 15th February 2022.

As we know that there are many online and offline platforms where we can sell our old mobile phone and people sell too but their are many people who are afraid of selling their old phone. They think that even if they factory reset their phone but still any one can access their privacy. Though I accept that their are many online sites which guides with the pre mobile selling protocols but they didn't get trust on it. If Government of India declares the protocols they will hopefully gain the confidence to sell their phone.

There should be an E-waste management centre on the lines of CSC which should be established at every 2 km where a person can deposit his/her e-waste & in turn gets a gift voucher or cash back. This will encourage all the citizens to properly dispose e-waste. Once the e-waste is collected by the management centre, they should segregate the useable components from the non-useable ones. After segregation, the useable components should be handed over to the relevant industries who can post repairs (if required) can use them in their products & the non-useable components should be properly disposed off under the guidelines issued by GOI / State Govt. /Municipal Corporation. This will ensure that the input cost is reduced & basis which the output cost or Sale price for the end consumer is also reduced. The reduced Sale Price will boost domestic sales. However, all the required technology & machines should be mfg. in & purchased locally. This in turn will help the domestic industry to grow.
