The strings of India's development have been inseparably attached to the success of its Textiles sector. The industry's symbiotic relationship with agriculture widens the range of beneficiaries.

•4.5 crore people are directly employed while another 6 crores are indirectly in this sector with a considerable stake of women and rural population.

•5% of the global trade in textiles and apparel is to India's credit.

•India's centuries-old knowledge and expertise in this sector have positioned it as the world's 2nd largest manufacturer and exporter with a 12% share in total exports (2018-19).

And now we, at the Textiles Ministry have our sights set on achieving global leader status for India. Government under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has been pushing for innovation and incentives to realise the mission of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by bolstering exports, quality & productivity, competitiveness, technology up-gradation, research & development, and training & skill development in this industry.

Now, we are keen to listen to the suggestions of Industry experts, innovators, students, business leaders, and all other contributors to this sector to expedite our mission. As we mark the 75th year of India's Independence, we want you to have an increased stake in the success of the Textiles industry.

The last date to share your ideas and suggestions is 15th August 2021.

Use of handloom textile must be made compulsory on selected occasion. There are numerous online trading sites are operating which can be utilised to promote handlooms like by allowing certain incentive on promoting handloom and charge penalty for not doing so. Use of fake or synthetic handloom products to be discouraged. Digital methods can ensure right and timely payments to village farmers and artisans. Schools and offices can have one day in week or month as handloom day.

Handloom clothes look classy and stylish. Handloom as the name suggests is purely manual operation but we should introduce little mechanisation to make it more productive along with computer or digital setup to keep the traditional design and patterns intact and at same time improvise along similar lines to produce modern patterns. Use of vegetable colour is already in thing. l think with little incentive to farmers and artisans our handloom industry will revive back.

Globally brands emphasize hand made as their USP, we have the richest heritage in that regard for textiles, specially natural fibers. Use that to market them. 2nd Embassies globally should organize handicraft/handloom days and use those events to promote our products globally independent of trade fairs. 3rd State gifts to visiting dignitaries should include such products. 4th a quota of State purchase to use during HADR ops. 5th encourage use of Khadi as school uniform.
