India’s Handloom sector is a symbol of our glorious cultural heritage and is an important source of livelihood in the country.

The first National Handloom Day was held on 7th August 2015 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. On this day, the handloom weaving community is honoured and their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country is highlighted, and the resolve to protect our handloom heritage and to empower the handloom weavers and workers with greater opportunities is reaffirmed.

Let us, together, ensure the sustainable development of the handloom sector by supporting our handloom weavers and workers for their exquisite craftsmanship.

As we approach National Handloom Day, we invite you to come forward & support the Handloom weavers/artists by sharing your photos or videos wearing or using Handloom products. The best pictures and videos will get featured at MyGov – the world’s biggest citizen engagement platform.

Go ahead, show your support to our glorious heritage!

Handloom industries should completely overcome present unHygienic condition in manufacturing, Dyeing, storing, material handling areas. I am retired from TEXTILES Committee ,inspected thousands of Handloom, powerloom sectors and found very pathetic / unhygienic atmosphere which are 90 % are Health Hazardous products. if quality and designs upgraded by adopting modern technology and by adopting iso9000 quality standards ,Handloom products can give best competition with powerloom products.

In order to increase use of Handloom Products we must go for using proudly our Indian made clothes, bags etc. 5% of global trade in textiles is to India's credit which should be increased drastically by producing/manufacturing more with high quality and creativity, designs and colors. Government employees, private employees, school teachers, students, hospital staff and non staff should wear clothes, uniforms of Indian handloom cloth. We must feel proud of it. We can and will do it for us.
