The city of Davanagere is located at a distance of about 260 km from the state capital of Bangalore. It is nestled at the foothills of the Western Ghats. Previously known for its cotton mills, it is a fast developing city of Karnataka. The arid town was once a thriving textile center. This place is also called as 'Manchester of Karnataka' or textile capital of South India.

Davanagere City Municpal Council came into existence on 7th Aug, 1951. Later it is upgraded as Davanagere City Corporation on 6th Jan, 2007. Presently it has jurisdiction over an area of 68.63 Sq. Kms with over 1.5 lakh properties. Davanagere City Corporation is situated at the P B Road, opposite to City Railway Station, Davanagere.

For its governance, the Davanagere City Corporation is divided into 41 wards, each represented by a Corporator. The Corporators elect the Mayor, who is the administrator of the City and serves office for a term of one year. The administration of the Corporation is vested in the Commissioner, who is designated by the State Government.

I would love to see Davangere with all the amenities possible for it to achieve the title "Smart city". My Suggestions are: 1. Wastes dumped on roads should be eliminated with proper waste management system 2. Lighting System on all the roads 3. Public transport with good bus stops which covers the whole city 4. Well developed roads and pedestrian footpath on sides of the roads 5. Strict Traffic rules and pedestrian crossings 6. Safety for girls on roads and strict actions for it

Hello Team Smart, 1.I am an graduate in Textile Dept and working in Pvt company in Bangalore. Because of lack of opportunities in Davanagere and I wish all would be happy if Davanagere gets its glory of old days saying "Manchester of Karnataka" means please plan for Textile park which is at most needed for Davanagere Textile Engineers. 2.Encourage young Entrepreneurs by giving them proper facilities in subsidy. 3.Basic infrastructure must be improved specially in Old Davanagere.
