education should help a person be able to support himself, to behave as a responsible citizen in society. todays school education utterly fails in the first objective. not every one wants to be an engineer or doctor. but every one needs basic skills like plumbing, electrical work, etc. vocational training can and should be brought to main stream schools as part curriculum. india is an agriculture based economy and this should be taught in schools also.

My thoughts : why are we allowing absentee teachers in rural and semi urban Zgovt schools ? Till we do not enforce punctuality and discipline for teachers no good will Come out of any think tanks / groups. Parents and other stakeholders (Gram Pradhans/influential people) must ensure presence of teachers and shame those found absent or commuting and reaching school late/leaving early. Also fix an efficiency bar for teachers to ensure minimum pass marks per class to be elegible for increments...

Education should be more and more linked to jobs. Students tend to concentrate more on the subjects and topics which they feel are useful for them. So, utility value of different subjects and should be kept in mind while framing curriculum. More and more emphasis should be given to linking of various concepts to the surrounding and usefulness. Furthermore, various vocational and skill building courses should be included in the curriculum after 8th and 10th class.

The language in books should be simplified for students. The present books, specially of science and mathematics have very difficult in Hindi medium. English terms should also be written along with Hindi terms, as students have to learn the subject in English after 10th class, which they find very intimidating after having learned only Hindi terms for 10 years. Every effort should be made to use simpler language and terms in books but at the same time, quality should not suffer.

I find the NIOS syllabus and the subjects offered much more interesting for the students , Govt. must encourage home schooling options and popularise NIOS , ensure that some skill development centres for young mothers in home schooling is encouraged in villages and even in cities this will improve quality value based education to the young minds .
