'Chanderi (MP) Saries' are well known world wide. Unfortunately the conditions of the weavers are not satisfactory. There appears a lot of potential in encouraging the weavers to enhance the production utilizing their full efficiency coupled with improvement in the income and social status of weavers working on ground. Efforts are required to educate such weavers and to bring them to a good social status. There appears a need for special schemes targeted to hidden places like Chanderi.

The textile industry occupies a unique place in India. It is one of the earliest industries to
come into existence in India. It accounts for 14 per cent of the total industrial production. It
contributes to nearly 30 per cent of the total exports and is the second largest employment
generator after agriculture. Textile industry is providing one of the most basic needs of people and
holds importance, maintaining sustained growth for improving the quality of life.
