This is a welcome initiative from PM. He has addressed so many public speeches now that there is a lot of repetition of various issues. PM may now include in his speech what his govt has achieved in concrete terms during these five months. What had been promised, what has been achieved or what is being achieved. Indians in Australia may give relevant suggestions. Modi style should continue with some change in the content. Indians are watching their PM like never before.

I have lived in Australia for three months Bush-fire is a major problem in all states of Australia. Dry bushes catch fire and burn the trees. Our forest officers and botanists can help Australia to plant less water consuming plants like kaner & Bougainville to replace the bushes. General practitioners in medicine are required in Australia but they do not consider Indian degrees equivalent to British degree with English as medium of Instruction. Simple entry rules should govern

The thrust of the PM’s Visit lies in its Geographical location and History of that Country in relation to INDIA. The Geographical location brings focus on STRATEGY and the History on ECONOMIC and DEMOGRAPHIC interaction. Here are the fallouts that we must look for:-a) We should develop a strategic understanding to safeguard our interests in the INDIAN and the PACIFIC Oceans in joint collaboration with US and JAPAN.c) Australia is still laboring under the slavish psyche of the Brits’ rule.

There are incidences of violence against Indians living in Australia. This has specifically come up recently. We may reason out with Government and address the problem as it never existed before. We may also look at how can we move forward in education sector? If scholarships, as in US for higher studies, can be extended by Australia? Our initial Agricultural Universities were patterned on some renowned State Universities of US. Can it be so with few top Technical Universities of Australia?

Australia is leading exporter of wheat having developed high yielding, quick growing, disease resistance, nutrition specific and suited varieties for its different rainfall regions with better crop management and post-harvest technologies though highest wheat yield attained so far (15 ton/hectare) is in New Zealand. But, Australia has a very high average yield (10 ton/hectare) of rice. These areas may also be of interest in any bilateral cooperation.

There was a program in Australia named ‘Total Catchment Management’ aiming at a coordinated use of land, water, vegetal and all other natural resources of a river (or ground water) basin involving both government and the community. The program also included National River Health and Clean Seas sub-Programs. Lessons learnt from it may be of significance to us.
