to add more...the bank was willing to take a passport that had been surrendered if it had an Indian address. Guess what, the embassy of India decided to put my US address and not an Indian address on my last 2 passports. In short the OCI is like a glorified visa that we are paying a lot of money for and is useless. The fact that I, who was born in India is an Overseas Citizen of India and my wife who is of Russian origin is a PIO - person on Indian origin shows how much thought is being made

To add to my previous post...we pay a lot of money to surrender an Indian passport and then get an OCI. I demand the Indian government pay me back those fees, in execess of $500. The OCI from what I can tell is a waste of money since banks in India don't accept it. I don't think the country knows it's own processes. I have 2 passports from Indian embassy and both have my address in US and the bank refuses to use those as a legal document as it does not have an address in India.

I would like to understand what is the reason for OCI. I have an OCI which has my address from US and it does not have an address from India, because - well, I don't live in India and hence the need for the OCI. I am born and raised in Bombay (Mumbai). I was speaking to a bank in Gujarat about a commercial loan and they asked me for proof of ID with Indian address. I said, I don't have that but I have OCI and they said they cannot accept that.

Khymer region in Cambodia has one of the largest historical Hindu city that existed in11th Century . Their are myriads of temples of Vishnu, Shiva etc. , however, all in decline. French Institute of Asian Studies together with Sydney Uni's campus in Siem Reap (Cambodia), are doing research on this once rich civilisation which comprised 2 million people. Similar Hindu temples in Bali are in decline with some meagre support from Japan. I believe newly formed Nalanda Uni must play a role there too.

LOC firing with Pakistan There has been a lot of press about India's muscular response to Pakistani provocation. However, it is important that the Prime minister makes a distinction between Pakistani people and its Army in any statement. The idea is to make this about pakistani army's provocation at the cost of pakistani people. Every statement Indian government should make should make a distinction between the two. PM should encourage Pakistani people to join in India's growth

Poverty, Population and Pakistan are challenging issues in front of the country. All focus is currently given to help poorest of the country. To Control the rapidly increasing countries population must also be dealt seriously by education in schools and thru adult education programs so that progress made economically can be more effective.

It is great step forward that all MP's will adopt and develop 5 villages. I suggest that Film Industry, Cricketers, Business Tycoon where where 90% of india's wealth sits should also come forward in this call of the Prime Minister. Any progress done to develop villages should be highlighted in the TV. Regarding" Clean India" movement, my suggestion is that young unemployed youth who are not college graduate should be employed utilized by the Government.

Hello Deepak Kavadia, I think this forum helps us to share ideas and views. I live in south Africa. My business requires machines & parts etc. I used to import from Europe in the past. But being an Indian & knowing our strengths & weaknesses, slowly over last 5years I created my own supplier base in india. Needs some research, references, some visits etc. but end of the day I am happy and satisfied with what I import from india. It benefitted our business and the suppliers in india too.
