sometime ago there was a newspaper reporter who asked me to name some breakthrough research done in the recent time by my univ. i was shocked since there was nothing i could recall. nothing that could make a difference even to the scientific world leave alone the common man.

the visits by these committees is sometime so dramatic. theres no surprise and obviuosly the university has time to clean labs or show off their best on the days of the committees visit. i think checking should be confidentially sudden and random.

I believe that ranking should be based on present achievements. Many institutions shine on past glory and have been accredited with NAAC and CAS based on achievements which are atleast 40 years old.
