The State Transport Authority (STA), U.T., Chandigarh has initiated a citywide enforcement campaign against the illegal and pollution causing vehicles, especially diesel auto-rickshaws that had been plying in the city. This drive had been initiated in the entire city to take a firm step towards creating a pollution free environment in the city, keeping in mind the larger public health concerns of the residents.

As per the latest data submitted by the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), there has been a significant decline in the various pollutants including SPM, RSPM, SO2, and NOx in various places of Chandigarh being monitored by CPCC over the past two weeks, ever since the drive was started by the State Transport Authority.

Meanwhile, to facilitate passenger movement, Chandigarh Administration is also strengthening its public transport system, by increasing the number & frequency of buses of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and also enhancing their routes.

In view of this recent anti-pollution campaign of the State Transport Authority, Chandigarh Administration hereby invites citizens of Chandigarh to tell us what is their opinion about the banning of illegal and pollution causing diesel auto-rickshaws in Chandigarh. Further, suggestions/ideas are invited from the residents to help us ensure that a clean and pollution free air is provided in the City Beautiful.

Air quality in metros can be cleaned by putting small electro-static air purifiers on the electric poles with a dust collector below it. These are inexpensive devices which give out positive ions. This removes smoke and other air polutents like dust, polen etc. Operational cost is negligible. Trial at one area in Mumbai or Delhi with air quality checks before and after fitting will tell the effectiveness. Trying to reduce number of cars purchased adversly affects economy and employment.

Following are my view to control vehicle pollution (any city):1. Whoever vehicle is not maintained properly or polluted air is coming more fine has to get from them. This is affecting others health as well. You can even get the driving license.2.Number of vehicles can be restricted according to city population.3.Lots of car pooling should be available, instead of permanent cars, rent car option should be established like 'ola'etc.

Respected Sir Good Afternoon A suggestion, Once a Polluting vehicles are identified, can penalty be charge be on a Hourly basis if the vehicle is on road, so say if a vehicle is penalized at 9:00 Am and we find a vehicle running at 12:00 on road we penalize X-times of the last penalty, the idea is to create so much pain for the defaulter that they end-up fixing the core issues. Regards Savith Salian
