Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th October, 2015.

Similar reductions in water use can be accomplished through new technologies, such as waterless urinals and toilets. While waterless urinals have already been developed and are being tested in public buildings, they have yet to be down-marketed to the homes and settlements of the urban poor. Thus, the challenges of reducing energy consumption in water distribution and adaptation to climate change offers new business opportunities for future entrepreneurs

Singapore introduced its “active, beautiful, and clean waters” design guidelines which offered design options for cleaning and using rainwater in biotopes and water bodies. Harvesting rainwater for drinking or nondrinking uses are examples of resource management measures that maximize water-use efficiency.

investments in the establishment or upgrading of a water treatment plant can be separated from both the piped water delivery network and the infrastructure that provides the water at the point of source or collection, such as a reservoir or well. This allows private sector transactors to calculate rates of return on each component individually, and thus to invest in individual components to their liking, and to avoid investment in components that are appropriate to government provision.

Dear Sirs, Please consider the proposal to set up elevated walk ways across the city to enable pedestrians comfortable walking alternative. Please also consider installing travelators that could be powered by solar panels installed in roof top of walkways. In this way walking can also be made speedier adding to attraction to people to avoid using vehicles for short distances.

UNDER GROUND DRAINAGE As the capacity of sewers was limited , during rainy days they became surcharged due to ingress of storm water. Any surplus of sewage in excess of pumping stations capacity was drained into the nearby natural water courses of the city viz. Cooum river, Adyar river, Buckingham canal and Otteri Nalla.
