Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th October, 2015.

Authorised space for allotting vehicles. Better restrooms and urinal facility at every areas in the city. Better space allocation to roads especially in Broadway and transferring the roadside fruit shops elsewhere to a seperate spacious place. Frequent programmes must be arranged by youths and citizens to participate in Swacch Bharath abhiyan. Frequent awareness programmes must be arranged by youths in clean Chennai. Kasimedu fishing locality must be clean and hygienic.

Purchasing and allotting the heavy vacuum cleaner for every 10 km of roads in chennai. So that it could absorb the dust and sand particle accumulated on the road. It will considerably reduce the particles suspended in the air (air pollution). The dust particles in the air can cause abrasions, or scratches, on the cornea of the eye, these injuries cause infection or damage the vision of the persons. Most common victims are bike riders.

- implementing new ideas like allocating premium spaces for tourists (in beach, worship places), launching mini double deck tourist buses for sight seeing, creating new tourist places (declaring some worship places as tourist places), developing lot of open spaces (large center squares and circles), creating culture park that provides food, music, dance and other cultural activities, - improving existing tourist places

Chennai is known for heritage, culture and tourism. If we leverage this to make Chennai as smart city, Chennai can be the no. 1 tourist destination in the world. Some ideas are - passing heritage act, preserving heritage sites - improving tourist touch points (educating tourists facing people to be tourist friendly, controlling tourist destinations for cleanliness and security)

A smart city is a system of systems – water, power, transportation, emergency response, built environment, etc.– with each one affecting all the others. It is those insights – presenting, perfecting and predicting – that enhance the livability, workability and sustainability of a smart city.

We need to benefit from a large network of Near-field Communication (NFC) equipped point of sales with the roll-out of contactless cards technology. It means hundreds of merchants are already capable of accepting mobile payments and wallets for seamless consumer experience and value added services, but also cashless cities are able to reduce frauds and benefiting from better insights on their citizen purchasing journeys.
