Distribution of LEDs,promotion has been going well. But its also necessary to exercise caution & regulate.Only color temperatures upto 3000K is considered safe, current LEDs sold in India and ones distributed under UJALA are around 6000K.They can disrupt our circadian rhythms, damage retina and in long term chances of Cancer can't be ruled out as well. http://www.govtech.com/fs/infrastructure/American-Medical-Association-Warns-health-White-LED-Streetlights.html

1. Make compulsory for Govt buildings, Schools, Colleges, offices etc. Private concerns will follow the trend. 2. Provide lamps in subsidized rate to everyone, so that market rate will fall sharply. Companies manufacturing LED bulbs are charging high price. 3. Provide circuit repairing units or train people to repair lamps. Repairing is very easy and people will be encouraged to purchase. 4. Vehicles must use LED Lamps, make it compulsory. 5. Reduce taxes on everything using LED.

First replace all the lighting in the Govt and Quasi Govt organisation by suitable LED bulbs. Do an audit of existing homes about the lighting method used by the respective ESCOMs and basing on the audit results offer LED at subsidized rate for replacement. While recommending replacement offer actual saving in rupee terms to the user house hold.

Dear Sir, Following things can be done to encourage usage of LEDs: 1. Economic incentive for replacement of CFLs: This would have twin benefits, one cost of CFL could be adjusted to LED which make it cheaper and also provide safe disposal for CFLs as it contains poisonous chemicals 2. By advertising on electricity bills giving their economic and social benefits. 3. Making obligatory for local bodies to install LEDs for new constructions/projects.
